The Kottonmouth Kings is a group that consists of a mixture between rap and rock. Since the mid 1990s, they have done work for movies as well as toured with some pretty big names. Although they prefer the underground, they have been unable to control the popularity that they continue to see to this day.
Starting Off
The Kottonmouth Kings officially became a band in 1994. The band originated in Orange County. Daddy X became enthralled in D Loc and Saint Vicious’ rhyming and chemistry. It was not long before DJ Bobby B found himself in the mix. They did songs about anything, from the injustice of politics to simply reminiscing about their youth. It was not long before this band became one of a kind, with their mix of hip hop and punk rock.
In addition to the vocal and musical talent, they also brought aboard their own ‘visual assassin, Pakelika. It was not long before this band began to put themselves out there. They became very well known on the west coast.
Band Members
The Kottonmouth Kings full band consist of Daddy X, Johnny Richter, D-Loc, Lou Dog, DJ Bobby B, Taxman otherwise known as Munchies as well as Pakelika. Their newest member is The Dirtball.
Soundtracks and Other Success
In the popular horror movie Scream 2, the Kottonmouth Kings attracted much attention with their song Suburban Life that appeared on the soundtrack. The following year, they released their Royal Highness album with Capitol Records. Their third album, High Society was released in the summer of 2000. With this album, they began to see more and more mainstream success. They began to tour with D12 as well as Bionic Jive during 2001.
Albums
Their fourth album, Hidden Stash II: The Kream of the Krop helped them to perfect the blend of punk rock with their sound. The album itself peaked on the Billboard 200 at #100. In 2002, the Kottonmouth Kings released what some think of as their most musically diverse album to date. Rollin’ Stoned peaked all the way to #51 on the Billboard 200.
Classic Hits Live is an album that consists of their latest tour. They recorded one song from each city of the tour. It was released in the summer of 2003. The Fire it Up album was released in the spring of 2004. This album gave them plenty of success with a peak all the way to #42 on the Billboard 200. In addition to this, the album also went to #4 on the Top Independent Album charts as well as #42 on the Top Internet Albums.
The Kottonmouth Kings have had nearly two dozen album releases. They are set to release a new album during the spring of 2010.
