She would be afforded many years of success from this start and create a fan base that others would only dream of having. Clarkson was discovered singing in the hallway at her high school and was prompted to join the school choir, where she would get her first beginnings in music.
Clarkson would get a chance to show the world her musical talents when she was featured on the first season of the television show American Idol. She would go on to win the contest in the fall of 2002. She would go on to sing the song A Moment Like This, which would also be featured on her first album called Thankful. The single A Moment Like This would go on to burn up the music charts where it would climb from number fifty two all the way to number one. The first week of the album release would see sales of over two hundred thousand copies. Kelly Clarkson would go on to be featured in a contest called World Idol, which was an offspring of all of the winners from the first season of Idol across the globe. She would come in second place behind singer Kurt Nilsen. From American Idol, she has gone on to become the best selling artist that got their start on the show.

The album would go platinum in a short time although it did not sell very well at first. Even Rolling Stone would recognize Clarkson’s more rock oriented voice on this album when they did a short article on Breakaway. She would go on to tour throughout the world in cities across Europe, the United States, and Australia where she furthered gained the attention of audiences world wide.
In 2005, Clarkson would go on to win a Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance as well as Best Pop Vocal Album.
