Keith Urban – Not Just Mr. Nichole Kidman

““I feel like I'm 15 and in my first garage band again, I don't know where that's coming from, but I love it. I find an even deeper exuberance in playing music and putting on a show...” Keith Urban

Early Life

Keith Urban was born in New Zealand but moved to Australia. A boy genius, he was already thinking about pursuing his career is music before the age of 10.

By 1990 he was signed by EMI, and he started recording his first album. The self titled first album was released in 1991 and it peaked at No. 92 on the Australian charts. The album was not released in the US. Keith Urban realized that his brand of music catered to a more country which can only be appreciated in the US. He decided relocate to Nashville, where he started playing guitar as a session musician. He got his first start as playing guitar for country stars like Brooks and Dunn. After continuing working for other artist most notably Alan Jackson, urban decided to do things on his own.

An American man

He first straightened himself out by kicking his cocaine habit and released his American debut album. The self-titled album was his breakthrough. It reached No. 17 on the Country charts and has sold a million albums in the US

He continued record as a session guitarist for superstars like Garth Brooks and the Dixie Chicks. He was featured on Garth Brooks’s blockbuster live album Double Live.

Commercial Breakthrough

He moved back into the studios and started recording his follow-up album. “Golden Road” was released in 2002 it was an instant hit. Featuring the No.1 single “Somebody like you”. The album would go on to sell 3 million copies in the US. Keith Urban had finally achieved his dream of being a country star. He toured to promote the album which included opening for Kenny Chesney. He released his third US album titled “Be Here” which outsold its predecessor. It was another massive hit and this time Keith Urban has crossed over to the mainstream pop charts as well. The album sold 4 million copies in the US and 4 million worldwide. He also scored a sponsorship from CMT (country music TV) to promote his arena tour.

The Superstar Status

By now Keith Urban had also gained tabloid celebrity status as he became the husband of Hollywood superstar Nichole Kidman in 2006. The same year he also released “Love, Pain & the Whole Crazy Thing” which was his second Country No.1 and sold 2 million copies in the US
