I have a house in Stratford and I got a house in Atlanta but I don't really live anywhere--I live on the road. I'm kind of like living in a suitcase, travelling so much.
Getting Started
Justin Bieber is a pop star, born and raised in Ontario, Canada by a single mother. He loved music from an early age and learned, as a child, how to play piano, guitar, drums, and trumpet. At twelve years old, he entered a singing contest in Stratford and came in second place.
In 2007, his mother began posting his performances of songs by Usher, Chris Brown, and Stevie Wonder on YouTube. Scooter Braun, formerly of the So So Def Record Company found him on YouTube, and set up a meeting with Justin and his mother. A week later, he was singing backup for Usher, and eventually signed a contract with the artist.
Becoming a Star
In 2009, Bieber released a single to precede his upcoming extended play recording. The track, One Time, became a Top 30 hit in ten different countries, pushing Bieber into the spotlight. The EP, My World, was released shortly after to an eagerly awaiting crowd. The EP certified platinum in the United States and Canada, and gold in the United Kingdom.
The album, My World 2.0, was released in March of 2010. Released only very recently, there are not statistics for this album yet, but projections show heftier sales numbers for the album than for the EP. Due to stout digital sales of mp3 dowloads online, every single on the EP and subsequent album has hit the charts at some point. In addition to his musical releases, Bieber has appeared as himself in the films, True Jackson, Silent Library, and School Gyrls.
What's Next
Justin Bieber has appeared in a number of multi-artist performances in the past year, including mtvU's VMA 9 Tour, YTV's The Next Star, and BET's 106 and Park. He has appeared on The Dome, The Today Show, It's On with Alexa Chung, The Wendy Williams Show, and others. He performed with Taylor Swift on the Canadian leg of her show, and is currently on his own nationwide tour.
Bieber won a MYX Music Award for Favorite International Video for One Time and has been nominated for three Juno Awards. He will be performing in the 25th anniversary version of We Are the World for Haiti Earthquake Relief, singing the part that was Lionel Richie's in the original version. He will open for Taylor Swift at Gillette Stadium for the annual concert for the winner of the CMA Entertainer of the Year Award.
Did you know . . .
Bieber's manager, Scooter Braun, was recently arrested for reckless endangerment, among other charges. Bieber was supposed to appear at a mall in Long Island. When the crowd of over 3,000 young girls became unruly, the police asked him to post on Twitter that the appearance was canceled, but Braun chose not to. Chaos ensued.
Justin Bieber performed for President Obama and his family at the White House for the televised special, Christmas in Washington.
Three singles from My World 2.0 appeared on the Top 40 chart by virtue of download sales alone, before ever being released to the radio.
