Joshua Winslow Groban was born in California, and was immersed in music and theater by the ninth grade. He attended Interlochen Center for the Arts in Michigan and majored in musical theater. When he was 17 years old, Josh's voice coach introduced him to David Foster, who was a rehearsal singer for a number of high profile artists, such as Andrea Bocelli and Celine Dion. Foster helped Groban obtain a recording contract with Warner Bros. Records.
Groban's first album, Josh Groban, focused on classic melodies, such as Alla Luce del Sole and Gira Con Me, with a few pop tunes, like Don McLean's Vincent (Starry, Starry Night) and Richard Marx's To Where You Are. The album sold 5,047,000 copies in the US alone, certifying mult-platinum.
Building a Name
During 2001 and 2002, Groban performed in multiple benefit concerts, including including the Andre Agassi Grand Slam Event for Children, alongside Elton John, Stevie Wonder, and Don Henley; Muhammad Ali's Fight Night Foundation; and Michael Milken's CapCure event to benefit cancer research. Groban's fan base grew with every performance.
Josh Groban released his second album, Closer in 2003. The album debuted at #11 on the Bllboard Top 200 chart and climbed to #1 within two weeks of release, selling 375,000 copies in its first week. That Christmas he performed at the Vatican, in a concert with Lionel Richie and Sting, among others. In 2006, he released his third studio album, Awake, which sold over 2 million copies and certified double platinum.

In 2007, Josh Groban released a Christmas album, Noel with the London Symphony Orchestra and the Magdalen College Choir. Over 5 million copies sold in the US alone, certifying it quintuple platinum. In 2007, Nielsen Soundscan reported that Groban was also #1 in digital sales with over 4.8 million sales of album and single downloads. The demand for mp3 versions of his music have remained consistently high.
Over the course of his short career so far, Josh Groban has performed with Andrea Bocelli, Charlotte Church, Sarah Brightman, and Charles Aznavour. He continues to perform in numerous benefit concerts, and tours on his own as well. He has contributed singles to soundtracks for the films, Polar Express, Artificial Intelligence (A.I.), and Troy.

Josh Groban's voice range is lower than tenor, but extends higher than baritone, making his range difficult to classify. He refers to himself as “a tenor in training.”
The Josh Groban Foundation is Groban's mission to help children in need, “through education, health care, and the arts.” Fans have raised almost $1 million to date.
