Born in the state of Arkansas in 1932, the man in black known throughout the world as Johnny Cash would take his band of three instrumentalists and go on to become one of the most legendary figures within the history of contemporary music. Although told many times over that his sound would never make it in the music industry, Cash would never be deterred and would eventually create one of the most profitable and well known music careers across the globe.
His dark style of dress and his low haunting voice still lives in the hearts of his fans to the present and he has been awarded numerous times over even after his eventual death in 2003. His style of country music changed the way Americans and the world looked at that genre as he would go on to have hits in cross categorical charts and styles.
Making It Happen
Johnny Cash would start his music career in the mid 1950's by attempting to play gospel tunes on the radio although he was told that market was not selling records. He would not be deterred and began writing his own songs. Eventually gaining an audition with a record company, he would begin playing gospel but revert to one of his originals, which would prove to be the break that the group needed.
They would sign to the record label and release their first singles. It was not until his second full length studio album that he received his great acclaim when he released the album called Folsom Prison Blues. On that album, the song called I Walk the Line became the number one country hit of the time. The song would win over the country music world as well as gain him fame within the pop rock genre as well.
He would tour relentlessly throughout the small towns and bars in the United States where he tried to gain a solid following of fans. Eventually, he would leave the Sun Records company that he originally first signed with and ink a deal with Columbia, which offered more money and the ability to move up fast. His first recording off of the record label would hold the song Don't Take Your Guns to Town, which would prove to be a huge hit in the country music scene.
Cashin' In
After his deal with Columbia, he would start touring heavily with the Carter Family and become estranged with his family due to the countless tour dates and time spent away from home. During this time, Johnny Cash would start to become interested in one of the Carter sisters whom was named June. Also during this time, he had started using amphetamines to give him endurance with the long touring and the constant driving from town to town.
This would later come to a head and lead to major changes in Cash's life. His family life would become almost non existent as he was constantly on tour and his love interest for his wife had faded. However, during these times of trial, he was continuing to excite and liven audiences all across the United States.
During this time, he would have another hit called Ring of Fire, which was a song that he did not write but would perform with the Carter Family and bring in the horn section to the song. As his success continued, so did his drug habits and Johnny would be arrested in 1965 for possessing prescription drugs for which he did not have a doctor's note.
Eventually, he would quit using narcotics in 1968 when he almost died from an overdose. Cash would go on to continue playing and winning awards for the rest of his life. Fans of Johnny Cash may find free music downloads on the internet or songs simply for screening.
