Life on the road is very different from a normal, day to day life, and sometimes that surrealistic existence can have an effect on you, you tend to forget that's not really how things are supposed to be.


Starting Out


Joe Nichols was born in Rogers, Arkansas, and moved to North Carolina when he was young. His father was a truck driver by trade, but was also a bass player in a country band. Joe, himself, ended up working for a while as a disc jockey for a rock radio station. In 1996, at age 20, Nichols signed a record deal with Intersound Records, and released his first album, Joe Nichols. The album's sales were poor, and Intersound dropped him.


In 1999, Nichols signed a contract with Universal South Records and released Man With a Memory. The single, It's Impossible went to #3 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles and Tracks list. The single was later named the 10th Most Played Country Song of 2003, by Billboard. This album earned Nichols a Top New Male Vocalist award from the Academy of Country Music and three Grammy award nominations. Around this time, Man with a Memory went platinum. Enjoying his Success


Joe Nichols spent most of 2004 on tour with Alan Jackson. During that time, he released the album, Revelation, which produced two Top 10 hits, Nobody Believed in You and What's a Guy Gotta do. Close on the heels of Revelation, Nichols released III, which produced his second #1 hit, Tequila Makes her Clothes Come Off. In 2005 and 2006, Nichols toured with Toby Keith.


Real Things and Old Things New were his next two albums. Real Things, released in 2007, went to #2 on the US country charts, and Old Things New, released in 2009, peaked at #15. Between the two albums, Joe Nichols married Heather Singleton and was checked into a substance abuse rehabilitation center. Since his discharge, he is reportedly clean, and he has discussed the strength of his marriage on several occasions.


2010 and Beyond


Nichols has exciting plans for 2010. He will be starring in the musical, Pure Country, on Broadway. There is no album in the works right now, possibly due to has work on Broadway. Time spent away from the Broadway show will most likely be spent with family, or at the Grand Ole Opry House, where he has been performing since 2003.


In 2009, Joe Nichols, along with Toby Keith, traveled to the middle east to perform for the troops in Kuwait and Iraq. While there,GAc video taped the concerts and is preparing to air the documentary on their program.
