Jesse McCartney
Music is my way of getting away from everything. It means a lot to me.
Born on April 9th, 1987 Jesse Arthur McCartney started his career at an early age. In his hometown of Ardsley, New York McCartney began to perform in local community musicals at nine years old and joined the national The King and I tour at the age of ten. During his childhood Jesse McCartney held many roles including that of Adam Chandler, Jr. in the ABC soap opera All My Children, as the voice of Roxas in the Disney/Square Enix video game Kingdom Hearts II and on several Disney TV shows including The Suite Life of Zack and Cody and Hannah Montana. In 1999 McCartney joined his first boy band, Dream Street, and remained a member until 2002. With the group, McCartney earned a gold record for the Dream Street debut CD.
At the age of fifteen, Jesse McCartney began his solo career with a local band featuring guitarist Dillon Kondor, bassist Peter Chema, keyboardist Katie Spencer, and several others under the management of his mother and Sherry Goffin Kondor. McCartney's first solo EP was released in July 2004 featuring Don't You, Why Don't You Kiss Her, and Beautiful Soul which became the title track for his debut album. Categorized as a pop record with twists of urban influence, McCartney released his debut album Beautiful Soul which reached number 15 on the Billboard 200 and has since gone platinum. McCartney's second album, Right Where You Want Me, was released in September of 2006 and reached number 14 on the Billboard 200.
In May of 2008 Jesse McCartney released his third album, Departure, which shows mature themes not present in his earlier albums. Departure's lead single, Leavin' reached number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 and has remained McCartney's highest-charting single to date. This album has been certified platinum, having sold over 3 million copies. In April of 2009, the album was re-released under the name Departure: Recharged and featuring four new songs - Body Language, Oxygen, Crash & Burn, and In My Veins. McCartney's fourth studio album is slated for release sometime within 2010 and will have a similar sound to Departure but with more R&B and urban influences than his third album.
In recent years McCartney has gained recognition for both his own albums and for his songwriting. In the fall of 2007 he co-wrote Bleedin' Love, the hit single for singer Leona Lewis' debut album. He has been asked by X-Factor's Simon Cowell to return to the studio to write songs for the American Idol contestants. Season six winner, Jennifer Hudson, has also asked him to write some songs for her. McCartney continues to pursue his career in both acting and music and, in both areas, his future looks bright.
