Jerry Rivera is an award winning Puerto Rican salsa singer that has been on the scene since the mid 1980s. His beautiful and distinct vocals have helped to make a name for himself.

Singing with his Family

During the summer of 1973, Jerry Rivera was born in Humacao, Puerto Rico. While he was still a baby, his family moved him to Levittown, Puerto Rico. This is where he grew up and went to school. Being a musician is in his blood as his entire family, as well as his siblings, are all talented musicians.

Jerry would sing with both his singer mother and guitarist father during their shows. It was during one of these times in 1988, that at the age of14 that he became noticed by Tommy Olivencia. He recommended that Jerry sing solo. His father helped him to make a demo and it was not long before the CBS music department signed this young man.

Rise to Stardom

Jerry Rivera released his very first album in 1989. The album, Empezando A Vivir brought forth the hit single De La Cabeza A Los Pies. He released his second album the following year. Abriendo Puertas brought on four number one hit singles in Puerto Rico. It was not long before he began to make a name for himself in the Latin community in the United States as well.

Awards

It was not long before Jerry Rivera began to see awards. Cuenta Conmigo, his third album brought forth three Platinum Record awards from Columbia, Puerto Rico, Venezuela as well as the United States. For three months, the Latin American Billboards were dominated by songs from this album. Amores Como El Nuestro helped Rivera to win Album of the year as well as Singer of the Year. In addition to this he also received three Crystal Awards from Sony Records.

Continued Success

In 1993, Rivera continued to dominate the charts with his album Cara de Nino. The following year, he tried his hand at a compilation album. Lo Nuevo y lo Mejor became his first compilation album. He was able to get a hit out of this album, still showing that he was unstoppable on the charts.

Over the next few years, he continued to release albums that provided him continued success and helped him to make even more of a name for himself.

New Fan Base

Rivera released a self titled album in 2001. It was at this time that he was focusing on changing up his music stylings with ballads as opposed to salsa. He released yet another album the following year entitled Vuela Muy Alto. It was these albums that helped him to get the attention of an entirely different fan base in the United States.

It was not long before Rivera went back to salsa with his album Cantando a Mi Idolo
