Jeremih - The Latest Sensation

"At a very young age I really fell in love with making music."

Def Jam's new singing sensation, Jeremih has rhythm and soul running through his veins. He grew up on Chicago's Southside, where the young twenty one year old songwriter/singer behind his nation; spread the breakout hit "Birthday Sex". When he was just a little boy, he began to make big noise and there was no doubt that he would be something one day. At three years old, his mom and dad gave him a drum set for Christmas which they brought from Sears. Even at that young age, he realized that he was in love with percussion and with music in general.

Jeremih - A Star in the Making

When he was attending Morgan Park high school in Chicago, Jermih joined up with the marching band and learned to play various instruments. Since he excelled academically, he was able to skip his junior year and graduated a year early, when he was 16.

With the aid of his mother and father's encouragement he enrolled in college. For a full semester, he stayed focus on his classes, but began to start getting involved with the campus talent shows. That was when his music took control of him, even at school. Instead of listening in class, he would write lyrics. So he talked to his mom about enrolling in Columbia College located in Chicago, an art college. With his parents support him, in 2007, the talented young man started to work towards a degree in music business at Columbia College. There, he participated in talent shows the school put on.

To make him stand out from other new artists, like the rappers who were coming out, Jeremih sang. Once he created for himself a reputation as a talented crooner, he began to collaborate with a Columbia's musically inclined student named Mick.

They soon began to spend all their time laying tracks for music in Mick's home studio. In 2008, they recorded a demo and gave it to a local radio station in Chicago. Their first, song played the airwaves with the catchy tune called "My Ride" that played on the station for an hour. Little did they know that the recorded song would be the key to many opportunities. The music director loved the sultry track and put in the station's rotations. In October 2008, he was hearing his hit "Birthday Sex" which was played back to back.

Making a Name

In February 2009, Jeremih went to New York to perform for the Island Def Jam President LA Reid. He was impressed by the potential star's live performance and the ranging sound. Reid did not waste any time and decided to make him part of his label's roster. With the label backing him up, the singer was ready to release his self-tilted debut album which is described as "Urban Pop." The album blurs the lines of the different musical genres.

The fierce walk of Tyra Bank's inspired the styling of "Runway" in which he sings about captivating women who work the catwalk. He pumps the energy up with the up-tempo "Jumpin" that no doubt had the various clubs popping. Though his debut album is ready to go and soon to be released, he continues to be hard at work using his gift for writing and making music.
