Born in the Windy City
Their have been many people that have risen to stardom from just a little exposure on television. Jennifer Hudson gained national acclaim from her appearance on the reality television show American Idol, and her career has taken off from there. She has been dubbed as an actress, singer and songwriter, and model throughout her early career and it looks as if things will continue to only get better for this young talented woman. Not only has her career in the entertainment industry been great, but she has also contributed to many charities and has a place in politics as she is claimed to be a close personal friend of President Barrack Obama.
Getting Her Start
The windy city of Chicago would turn out another person destined for fame when Jennifer Hudson was born on September 12 in 1981. She started her musical career at an early age where she attended the Dunbar Vocational Career but first began singing with her church choir at the age of seven. Her rocky start came with her appearances on the hit television show American Idol in its third season.
She would get the attention of the judges and would go on as the first round of semi finalist in the contest. Her first live performances were given very low ratings. It was only after changing her songs did she become an Idol favorite. Her cover of the Elton John single Circle of Life. Although she would continually be praised for her voice and her songs, she did not win but went on to become the number three spot on that season’s show.
Changing Gears
After her debut on American Idol, Hudson caught the eye of many and landed a role in the movie Dreamgirls, which came out in 2006. She played the part of Effie White and was casted among many film greats such as Jamie Foxx and the music diva Beyonce Knowles. The role was musical in nature and Jennifer Hudson wowed audiences in the film with her rendition of the song And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going, which would later be given a rave review by the New York Observer. Her rendition of the song would eventually pop into the charts on the Billboard 100 that would reach number ninety eight. The role in the movie Dreamgirls would give Hudson an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2007
Family Matters
The movie world and music industry was shocked in 2008 when members of Hudson’s family were brutally murdered. Hudson’s mother, brother, and nephew were shot to death. Eventually, her brother in law would be brought up on charges of murder. Due to these circumstances, Hudson decided to take a few months off from her singing and acting career.
Back to the Big Screen
After her furlough for personal reasons, Hudson came back to the world of acting and appeared in many movies in the year of 2008. Hudson played alongside Sarah Jessica Parker in the movie Sex and the City, which was based off of a hit HBO series called Sex and the City. Hudson would also work on the movie The Secret Life of Bees in 2008. The film was a great success and grossed somewhere around thirty seven million dollars at the box office as well as winning two People’s Choice awards later in 2009.
Jennifer Hudson still continues to work on the screen as well as promote herself as a singer and songwriter. Some of her music may be available on the internet as free music downloads. Her fans are many and some say she has yet to make her run on both the screen and the stage.
