One thing that remains consistent throughout anything I do in life really is remaining true to myself and trusting my gut instincts.
Across the Pond
Born in the burrow of Hounslow West London, Jay Sean would take the UK hip hop and R&B circuit by storm creating a place in history for the singer, songwriter, and actor. He would begin performing at an early age and by age eleven he had formed a band with his cousin. He would get the nickname of Jay from the band that he and his cousin formed and he would go on to use the name later in life as his surname. He would attend multiple schools receiving a superior education and would later enroll himself at the London School of Medicine although he would drop out shortly after entering to pursue his career in music.
Early Career
Jay Sean would go on to create a single track called One Minute that would make it to the up and coming producer of the day called Rishi Rich. Rich and Sean would go on to form what was called the Rishi Rich Project with fellow musician Juggy D in the year of 2003 and would produce their first hit called Dance With You. The song would reach the number twelve position in the UK and would gain Sean a deal with Virgin Records, which was said to be for somewhere around the amount of one million English pounds.
He would produce a second single called Eyes On You as his first single as a solo artist and this would also become a top ten hit making its way to the UK charts at number six. There would be another single called Stolen that would also be released shortly afterward and it would make it slightly higher to the number four position. After these singles, he would begin work on his first full length studio album of his solo career that would be titled Me Against Myself.
The album got a slow start although it was met with decent critical acclaim. It would sell around one hundred thousand copies in the UK and would become a hit in India where it would sell over two million copies in the country. Jay Sean would find a large following across Asia, the Middle East, and Europe, but had yet to break into the United States scene, which he would later state as one of his main goals as a musical artist. He would go on to appear on MTV Asia, which would gain him a little exposure in the U.S.
Continued Success
Sean would go on to solidify his position throughout Asia and Europe and begin concentrating on his next works. He would begin creating another full length album but after ensuing controversy with Virgin Records, the album would not be released and he would eventually leave the record label. Jay Sean would feel that his next breakthrough would be left up to him alone. He would release the single called Ride It and this would be the first single from his next album called My Own Way.
The album title was indicative of his feelings of creating his own future as he would go on to create his on record label. The album would go to the number six position on the UK Albums Chart. The album would go on to continue his success throughout Europe and the single called Ride It gave him success in the countries of Turkey, Russia, and Romania. Sean’s fans may find some of his music available as free music downloads or for internet screening throughout the internet.
