North American Border
Although this was not the first band that was formed by the group Hawk Nelson it would be their most successful. The members of the band, Dunn, Clark, and Paige, all from Canada, would go on to form the Christian Rock band called Hawk Nelson from Barrie, Ontario that would gain fame throughout the world bringing their sound to many Christian and non Christian fans all across the world.
Career Start
The group would tour the cities and towns surrounding Ontario, Canada as they paid their dues and gathered fans from throughout these locales. Eventually, Hawk Nelson would gain the attention of the producers of Tooth and Nail Records, where they would go on to sign a record contract. The group would go on to produce Letters to the President, which is a fourteen track album that was co written by Aaron Sprinkle and band member McNevan.
The band would start to get the attention of some of the fans in the mainstream audiences and would go on to get a television appearance where they played The Who on the NBC show American Dreams. For the movie called Your’s, Mine, and Ours, the group recorded the track titled Bring’em Out. Also, The Show was a song they produced for some of the Sunday Night Football commercials. The band would go on to re release their Letters to the President album in October of 2005, in which it would then contain new material.
Other Albums
The group would tour throughout Canada in support of their album and would then go back into the studio and produce their second full length album called Smile, It’s the End of the World. The album would go on to win a Canadian GMA Covenant Award for Modern Rock/Alternative Album of the Year in 2006. The group’s first single called Everything You Ever Wanted would climb the Canadian charts and make it to number one, which is their first real charting single of that particular time.
In support of the album, the group would go on a large scale tour playing at large scale Christian Music Festivals, which would gain them a much larger audience base and afford them some of the fame that they had been so searching for. From their touring, the group also gained the attention from some of the major touring executives and would be featured on the various stages at what was called Creation Fest in years 2006 through 2009. The group had now solidified its fan base as not only in Canada, but the United States as well.
They would go on to continue to tour in support of their first two albums, which were gradually growing in successfulness with every tour and every new fan. The group would produce their third album called Hawk Nelson is my Friend in 2008. The album would feature collaborative efforts from members of up and coming groups such as Thousand Foot Krutch and Our Lady Peace. The group would have its first nomination for a Grammy Award from that album although they would not actually win the award. They would go on to headline their own tour where they maintained a supporting cast of Run Kid Run and Capital Lights.
The group would embark on the Winterjam Rock and Worship Road Show Tour in the spring of 2009. Many of the group’s fans can find their music on the internet for free screenings or possibly free music downloads and can find more information about their history from their official web site as well.
