Family Force 5 or FF5 have been recording and music since 1993 and have gained wide spread commercial and critical successful in the US. Their brand of rap-rock, Nu metal music but with the central theme of Christianity religion has given them a cult like status in certain markets in the US. Hailing from Atlanta in Georgia, they have always claimed to have written music about Jesus Christ as their savior.
After almost a decade in existence they received mainstream commercial success with the release of their first album in 2006. The bands music is based on high energy and lyrics about their religion which is meant to inspire the youth of America to be more conscious about the Christianity. They have used several genres like hip-hop and crunk as a part of their music journey.
Formation
The band formed in 1993 in Atlanta, Georgia. Initially three of the five members of the band were brothers - Solomon, Joshua and Jacob. The boys ere always music oriented and prior to forming the band they were together as singing group or boy band called The Brothers, they even released an album called Fact and Reality in 1994. The albums were produced by their father who himself was a Christian artist and minister. He is in fact a minister at the Trinity Chapel in Atlanta.
The band started playing shows at Christian events. They then added two new members and started recording demos of their music. They changed their name to The Family but would have to change the name due to copyright issues with another band. The band also changed their music style and were playing more rock oriented music and heading towards Korn type of Nu-Metal. For the next few years they would continue to play mostly at Christian events all over the US.
The Breakthrough
In 2004 they finally signed with Maverick Records for mainstream distribution and with Gotee Records for distribution in the Christian market. Maverick was started by Madonna and was under the Warner Music company suggested for the band change their name to be more successful and acceptable. The band also spent the next year rehearsing and recording material for their up coming debut.
Released in march of 2006, their first album "Business Up Front/Party in the Back" was an immediate success in both Christian as well as mainstream markets. The album spawned several hit singles like "Love Addict" and "Earthquake". Guitar rock oriented sound was the music theme of the album.
