Early Life
Fabolous was born in Brooklyn, New York. While still in school his passion for rap took him to pursue a career in rap. He was invited by a local DJ to rap and was signed to Desert Storm Records, he was featured in several remixed that got the attention of Elektra records. And Desert Storm records along with Fabolous signed a distribution deal with Elektra records.
Even before releasing a single record, Fabolous confirmed allegations of an attempted murder. Many thought this to be a publicity stunt as Fabolous did not strictly come from the hood.
The Breakthrough
Fabolous released his first album in Sept 2001 called “Ghetto Fabolous”, the album debut at No. 4 on the mainstream US album charts and No.2 on the RnB charts, eventually going on to sell over 1 million copies. This was an impressive breakthrough for Fabolous; he followed it up with his second album released in 2003 titled “Street Dreams”. The album was his second million seller and peaked at No. 3 on the charts.
In 2003, he released his mix tape called “Street Dreams 2”. Fabolous gained a lot of respect from the rap community despite his straight forward beginnings. The second album was also his first international success as it charted in the UK and several other territories. The single “Can’t Let Go of You” was a major hit which reached No.4 on the US Hot 100 singles.
In 2004, Fabolous returned with the highly anticipated third album called “Real Talk”. The album moved away from the RnB hip hop style and was sounding more pop. It received negative critical remarks. Commercially the album did not fare well like their previous effort. The single “Breathe” however a signature tune is and is mostly played live during his concerts. The album produced by The Neptunes and DJ Khaled managed to sell 500,000 copies and therefore it was certified Gold.
The Fabolous Way
Fabolous went through issues with law on numerous occasions but seemed to have come out of it well enough. He recorded his fourth studio album which featured production from Timbaland and Akon. The album faired a lot better than its predecessor. It debut at No.2 on the mainstream US charts largely due to the single “Make me Better” which was a Top 10 hit. The song featured RnB superstar Ne-Yo
The next album had the press going into superlatives. Released in July 2009, “The Loso’s Way” was a concept rap album themed behind a gangster movie. The production and songwriting on rave reviews and the album debut right at the Top of the charts on the US Billboard
