The Early Years
Espinoza Paz was born in the village of La Angostura, in Mexico. At age eleven, he wrote is first song. By thirteen, he had written more than twenty. He bought his first guitar with money his father sent him from the United States. He emigrated to California in 1996, only to return to Mexico and learn of the death of his mother.
Then next six years were spent performing banda and nortena music in small venues in Mexico, and seeking a recording contract so he could move forward in the music industry. In 2005, he met the famous Mexican singer, El Coyote. He showed El Coyote some of the songs he had written, and the famous musician recorded some of them, gaining airplay and public exposure for Espinoza Paz and his music.
Moving Forward
The attention afforded Paz by his songs being played on the radio earned him a recording contract with American Show Latin/Macheto Regio. In 2008, Espinoza Paz released his first album, El Canta Autor Del Pueblo. The album peaked at #11 on the Latin charts, #17 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart, and #5 on the Mexican Regional charts. He received the BMI Music Award for Latin Songwriter of the Year in 2008, and again in 2009.
Espinoza Paz released his second album, Yo No Canto, Pero Lo Intentamos, in 2009. The fan base he had developed with his songwriting skills and his debut album were eagerly awaing this release, and the album peaked at #1 on the Latin music and the Regional Mexican album charts. It held these spots for twenty-eight weeks. The album earned him a Billboard Latin Music Award for Hot Latin Songs Artist of the Year.
Present and Future
Paz's first concert is scheduled for April of 2010, at the Anselmo Valencia Tori Amphitheatre in Tucson, Arizona. His album sales and sales of mp3 downloads at various Latin music sites and his own web page predicted the successful ticket sales the concert is seeing.
At the 2010 Los Premios Lo Nuestro Latin Music Awards, Espinoza Paz was awarded Banda Artist of the Year, Male Artist of the Year, and Song of the Year. The organization that presents these awards, The New Generation Music Group is headed by Gloria Estefan. He is back in the studio, with hopes of releasing another album at the end of 2010 or the beginning of 2011.
Did you know . . .
Espinoza Paz collaborated with Banda Cuisillos on five tracks, which were all included on Cuisillos' album, Mil Heridas. The title track was among the collaborations.
Paz's real name is Isidro Chavez Espinoza.
Paz has written songs for such famous Latin artists as Sergio Vega, La Arrolladora Banda el Limon, Julio Chaidez, Banda de Jerez, and Jenny Rivera.
