Drowning Pool

This hard heavy metal/hard rock band formed back in the mid 1990s. Drowning Pool has sold millions of albums and has been popular in free mp3 downloads. They've released four albums and have had over ten successful hit singles. Although they have had several lead singers, they have shown that they as a band are strong enough to go the distance.

Starting Out

Drowning Pool was formed in 1996 in Dallas by drummer Mike Luce and C.J. Pierce on guitar. They moved to Dallas from New Orleans to get with Stevie Benton for bass. Their initial plans were to play as an instrumental trio but quickly found that they had something with Dave Williams doing the vocals. Their first demo fell into the hands of the members of Sevendust and from there they were invited to tour with them. After continuing to tour with other bands they recorded their second album. From there they found themselves on the local radio stations and with a contract with Windup Records.

They were able to see their first bit of success while they played during the Ozzfest tour along with Ozzy Osbourne. It was at this time that they were able to get signed and release their debut album. Sinner quickly showed them a great deal of success. This album was certified platinum within six weeks after being released. Their first single, Bodies was a huge success, it showed up on several television shows as well as movies. On the mainstream rock charts the song peaked at #6. After that, they released two other singles. Tear Away and Sinner were both successful singles and kept them from being one hit wonders.

Tragedy

In August of 2002, lead singer Dave Williams passed away while on tour. He was found in his bunk on the tour bus. They say he died from natural causes although he was only thirty years old. He suffered from an undiagnosed form of heart disease. Although they had lost their lead singer, Drowning Pool wanted to move forward. They began to look for a replacement for Williams.

In 2003, they found their replacement in Jason (Gong) Jones. The following year they released their second album, Desensitized. In addition to their new singer, they also found a new style of music. They had moved away from their anti social and grimacing demeanor and went more towards a sexy and rock star feel. They saw a great amount of success with their first single, Step Up but overall their second album was not as successful as their first.

More Changes

Jason Jones did not stay with Drowning Pool long and it was announced publicly in the summer of 2005 that he would be leaving. The reason was simply stated as irreconcilable differences. Drowning Pool decided to formally announce their new lead singer during Ozzfest in Dallas. It was then that Ryan McCombs became the new lead singer of Drowning Pool.

In the spring of 2006, the band went their separate ways with Wind-Up Records. Their first single with their new lead single, No More found its way onto the soundtrack for Saw III. In February of 2007, Drowning Pool went on to sign up with Eleven Seven Music. In addition to the new label, they also got a new management company in Tenth Street Entertainment.

New Album

In August of 2007, they released their third album, Full Circle. Although fans stated that they preferred the new singer to the previous one the album did not do as well as they had hoped. Two of the songs off of the album were produced by Funny Farm Records who is owned by Nikki Sixx from Motley Crue as well as DJ Ashba from Beautiful Creatures. The other tracks were produced with Ben Schigel at January Sound Studio.

In 2008, the band began to tour with Saliva. During the summer of the same year they found themselves at the Dubuque County Fair along with Seether and Sick Puppies.

The band released a live album in March of 2009. Loudest Common Denominator included two bonus tracks of acoustic versions of their songs 37 Stitches as well as Shame.

Current

Drowning Pool plans on breaking one of their own records with having the same vocalist for more than one album. This is with the exception of the two albums that were released before Sinner with Dave Williams. Currently, their first single is available on the Drowning Pool MySpace page. The album itself is set to release in April of 2010.
