Indestructible Metal Riders
Disturbed has destroyed everything in their path to Metal glory. Their ferocious live shows dominated by their frenetic thrashing guitars and the growl of one of Metals most messianic vocalist. The bands live shows have become iconic dark debauchery of alternative metal madness and songs about war and religion. A symbol reflecting the emotion in the bands music the mascot called The Guy does for the band what Eddie does for Iron Maiden.
They have been a band for the last 10 years and have sold nearly 20 million albums worldwide; covering the most unlikely artist Genesis to produce a signature metal tune "Land of Confusion". Their music is inspired by the classic metal bands like Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden. The band also joins like Van Halen, U2 and Metallica to release trilogy albums that have consecutively reached No.1 on the US charts. Disturbed play their own annual Music as a Weapon concert series which has seen performances from other hard rock and metal acts like P.O.D, Drowning Pool and Stone Sour.
The Early Years
The genesis of the band can be traced to a group of friends; bassist Steve "Fuzz" Kamak, drummer Mike Wengren and guitarist Dan Donegan who started to jam together and record demos in Chicago. The band's vocalist left the group shortly after the recording of the demo. The band placed an ad for auditions which was answered by Damian Draiman among many others. It was Damian who impressed the band the most and it was the chemistry right from the start which promoted the band to offer him the spot of lead vocals. Damian joined the band in 1996 and the rest as they say is Metal history. His vocal range reminds you of a deep Bruce Dickinson.
After renaming the band Disturbed, an idea by Damian. They kept recording demos and playing local venues. By 1999 they signed with Giant records and in 2000 they released "The Sickness" the bands very first album. At that time, America was going through an overload of Nu-Metal and rap core bands which played that aggressive kind of music with thrashing guitars and industrial sensibilities. The genre was quickly losing its credibility and spark.
But their album was different, they avoided the clichés, they avoided being just another band. The music is gut-level and raw power but drawing from the classics, their apply melody and solid focus on lyric writing which seems integrated and accessible. The very first album launches their career into stratosphere. The album breaks into the US charts and peaks at No.29 selling 4 million copies. The band goes on a tour of the US which is well received.
Believe in Disturbed
In 2002, the band releases their sophomore effort "Believe" which contains the single "Prayer". The album production is more lose and a distinct progression from its predecessor. The video for "Prayer" is however pulled off the air as the images seem to draw comparison with Sept 11. But overall music is emotional and melodic and it is Damian's powerful singing that makes the difference. The album debuts at No.1 on the US charts. They launch into a world wide tour which is hugely successful. The album has been certified platinum eventually selling 2 million copies.
In 2005, after relentless touring they record the follow-up and release "Ten Thousand Fists", the album is another certified platinum and debuts at No.1 on the US album charts. A lot of their music is used in gamin consoles and it is the bands visual dark fiendish imagery reflects in their songwriting. They embark on their own Music as a Weapon tour which is a huge success.
In 2008, the bands fourth album is another chart success making it a trilogy of No.1 albums. The lead singer "Indestructible" is about the chaos and casualty of war. But it is also the guitar work of Dan Donegan which has both phenomenal pace and melodic riffing. The live tour is another phenomenal success, Damian's rebel rousing fist pumping metal messiah has made the band truly indestructible.
After relentless touring and recording schedules the band took a break before they went into to record their new album. It is rumored that by the end of 2010, the band will release their forthcoming album.
