Dierks Bentley - Southwest, East Coast to Tennessee
Born on November 27, 1975 and given his maternal grandmother's maiden name of Dierks, today's hot country singer spent his first decade and some in Phoenix, Arizona where he first met Cassidy Black, who is now his wife. When he was a teenager he moved to the East coast where he graduated from his New Jersey high school in 1993. Bentley went even further north and attended the University of Vermont for a year before he answered the call of Nashville and transferred to Vanderbilt University. While there the strapping nineteen year old pledged with the antebellum south social fraternity of Sigma Alpha Epsilon and continues to honor the creed of The True Gentleman with his soft spoken ways although he never graduated from the University.
The Bentley family was not musical in nature and Dierks feel for country music came from hours of listening to Waylon Jennings and Merle Haggard as a young man and working as a classic country music researcher for the Nashville TNN TV station during his early years in Nashville.
Making it in the music scene
Initially discouraged with his efforts in 2001 to attract attention in Nashville Dierks Bentley was rejuvenated by an all night bluegrass session at Station Inn and resumed campaigning for gigs and landing them. Capital Records signed him shortly afterwards and released Dierks Bentley in August of 2003. The single What Was I Thinkin went to Number One on the Hot Country Songs Billboard Chart from that album but it was his second studio album, Modern Day Drifter, released in 2005 that solidified Bentley's position as an up and coming country music star. Come a Little Closer and Settle for a Slowdown were Number one hits on the charts with Lot of Leavin' Left to Do ranking Number three.
In 2005 Dierks Bentley became the youngest current Grand Ole Opry member and won the County Music Awards Horizon Award which is now called the Best New Artist Award. Now on a real roll Bentley's third album, Long Trip Alone, was released in October of 2006 and claims four top ten ranking singles. The Number one hit singles are Every Mile a Memory and Free and Easy (Down the Road I Go) with Trying to Stop Your Leaving peaking at Number five and title song Long Trip Alone peaking at Number ten.
Almost every song Bentley sings has been co-written by himself, Brett and Jim Beavers with Brett Beavers also acting as producer. Capital Records continues to be the label on his albums and Bentley remains married to his childhood sweetheart. True to the loves of his life he continues to build respect and loyalty from co-workers, family and fans alike.
Committed to his fans Dierks drew them into the song list selection and art design of his next studio album which was released in May of 2008. Greatest Hits/Every Mile Memory 2003-2008 contains live recordings and tracks requested by survey of his fan base. In the album liner notes 3000 fans names are credited as executive producers.
A beautiful world evolves
Dierks Bentley loves touring and 2007, 2008 and 2009 had him on the road with Bucky Covington, Luke Bryan, Jimmy Wyan and Brad Paisley. His world became even more beautiful with the birth of Evalyn Day Bentley on October 4, 2008. Feel the Fire, came out in February 2009 and has sold over 310,000 units as of January 2010.
