He was born with four other brothers and sisters and they would move to Salt Lake City. He would go on to attend Murray High School in Salt Lake and member of both the Boy Scouts of America and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
He would start his career at a very young age when he would play in a Les Miserable and he would later go on to say that this was what started his career. He would then go on at the age of ten to start competing in many different talent shows as well as the Utah Talent Competition. He would sing I Will Always Love You and would receive a standing ovation after his performance.
Upstart
David Archuleta would gain his musical background from his mother who taught him much about the Latin culture and music in general and would sometimes make him dance with his older sister. Another influence on his musical career was the genre of jazz along with his father's collection of gospel, rock, and soul. One final point to mention is his love for Broadway Musicals.
Archuleta would get his start on the hit television show called Star Search. He would become the Junior Vocal Champion in 2003 and would end up losing to the female junior Tiffany Evans. On the show he would end up singing alongside of his American Idol challenger Alexandrea Lushington. From his appearances on Star Search, he was afforded time slots on The Jenny Jones Show along with CBS' The Early Show where he would meet many of the finalists from American Idol first season.
He would gain praise from Kelley Clarkson when he performed the song And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going. After his stint on Star Search, he was diagnosed with having vocal paralysis but chose not to undergo surgery and has been said to be nearly recovered. He would limit his singing engagements but would sing in the Bringham Young University Stadium for the Independence Day show.
Idol Success
David Archuleta would get his ticket to ride to Hollywood after his final audition in San Diego. He would sing John Mayer's Waiting on the World to Change and would play a few more songs while using the piano as his musical instrument. He would then go on to sing John Lennon's Imagine but did not see the first few verses that talk about religion due him being a Mormon.
He would then go on to sing We Can Work It Out although it was called a mess and was reported that he was under extreme pressure from his father before the show who was rumored to have yelled at him. He would later defend his father saying that his father was the person who kept him grounded.
Although Archuleta would not win the overall contest, many of those watching on television would declare him the winner. He would finish second to David Cook although this would afford him to begin his solo career in music without having to worry about competing in contests and the likes. Many of Archuleta's fans can visit his official website and possibly find some of his music available for free music downloads.
