Da T.R.U.T.H.

I ask for your forgiveness as I work towards reconciliation. My greatest hope is that my failures and short comings are seen for what they are - MY failings and not a reflection of the God that I proclaim. Despite my falling short, the resurrection and life changing power of the cross remains the same. While I never imagined myself ever being here, I humbly ask that you lift my family and me up in prayer for the wisdom, healing and restoration we need. I look forward to the day when I will stand before you again while living a life that reflects the power of the glorious gospel."

Da T.R.U.T.H. Tells The Truth

Emanuel Lee Lambert, Jr., aka Da T.R.U.T.H was known, until recent months, as one of Contemporary Christian music's most loved artists.    In November, 2009, he made the above announcement and shocked his fans as well as his detractors, of whom there were few.

Historical T.R.U.T.H.

Lambert was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on December 15, 1977 and became interested and active in music while he was just a teenager.  He also began to follow the tenets of Christianity at that time and considered himself a missionary to the inner city, hoping to change that world with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  While he has become known as a Contemporary Christian Rapper, he began his music career as a drummer, listening to more widely accepted "regular" Contemporary Christian music.  According to Da T.R.U.T.H., I had no interest in rap music.  As a matter of fact, I was disenchanted with the whole idea of rap.  Fortunately for his fans, the disenchantment didn't last long and when dipped his toes into the world of free-styling, he knew he would soon take the plunge that won him worldwide fame.  He was given his nickname when he was just 19 and he went on to study what he believes is the truth at The Philadelphia Biblical University and The Institute of Jewish Studies.

Da Rise of  Da T.R.U.T.H.

In 2003, Da T.R.U.T.H. released his Who Is The Truth EP, and a little later, his first album, Moment of Truth.  This album was all about sharing the stage for the glory of God and share he did; the album was recorded at the Impact 2004 Concert in Atlanta, Georgia and the stage was a collective one with Kirk Franklin, Trip Lee, the Cross Movement, Flame, Tye Tribbet, Jr., and Donnie McClurkin.  Heard in the background are the 1,000's of young people who worshipped right along with the artists.

He was already well-known and accepted when he released his much acclaimed and fondly anticipated second album, The Faith.  It is a hopeful album about, believe it or not, murder, both spiritual and earthly warfare, and man's imminent fall; the heart of the album's message is man's redemption from all of these through God's forgiveness and man's faith in Him.  The album steps into the secular world only briefly to pay homage to rappers such as the now deceased Tupac and Biggie Smalls, but quickly returns to his real message with accolades to Martin Luther and John Calvin.

Then came Open Book in 2007 which, according to some, just doesn't pass as decent hip hop.  It does, however, display life as Christians are expected to live and that is what Da T.R.U.T.H. says he is all about.  This album was nominated for a Grammy in the category of Best Gospel Album.

The Big Picture, released in 2009, was all about God, but with all the bravado of the typical urban rap artist.  In this album, Da T.R.U.T.H. is clearly a worshipper and maybe even a politician as he alludes to the rise of Obama to a divine plan. And Sadly, Da Fall

As noted in the very first paragraph, Da T.R.U.T.H. has joined a veritable Who's Who of ministers and musicians of the gospel who have, in their own words "fallen."  If Da T.R.U.T.H. believes his own message, and surely his fans pray and trust that he does, Contemporary Hip Hop Gospel has not heard the last of Emmanuel Lee Lambert, Jr.
