Conjunto Primavera

It's very important for us to demonstrate to audiences, to the world, that regional Mexican music -- in this case, grupero music -- was sometimes relegated..  We want to set a standard and prove that our music is dignified enough to show anywhere in the world.

Humble Beginnings

Saxophonist Juan Dominguez had an idea in 1978;he brought together bass player Oscar Ochoa, drummer Adan Huerta, singer Nacho Galinda, and bajo sexto player Telesforo Saenz and formed the band, Conjunto Primavera.  The band's roster has changed over the years, but their success has been irrefutable.  The band has released 31 albums since 1993, several of which certified gold.

Playing music in the Norteno genre (Spanish for northern), the band caters to Mexican and Mexican-American listeners.  Their music features the bajo Sexto, which is a guitar with twelve strings grouped in pairs.  Norteno music also often features an accordian, which Conjunto added in 1987.

Staying Close to the Roots

The group was formed in Ojinaga, Chihuahua, the band is made up of Mexican-born musicians.  Through the years, they have not strayed far from their home, nor has their music strayed far from its Mexican roots.  Staying true to the Mexican styles has proven profitable for Conjunto Primavera and has brought them fame and success.  They have been nominated for Latin Grammy awards several times, and in 2006, they won the award for Best Regional Mexican Song (Aún Sigues Siendo Mía)

Their success has been attributed to several factors, including their incorporation of the saxophone into their music.  This is a regional choice, and sets them apart from other bands in their genre.  Additionally, Conjunto Primavera has proven flexible in their musical styles.  While always remaining true to their heritage, they have left the Norteno limits and recorded music in other styles, such as rancheras, cumbias, boleros, and ballads.  Their wide scope of music has enticed a greater span of listeners.

2010 and Beyond

Conjunto Primavera continues to record and tour. They have added to their following a strong on line fan base, offering mp3 downloads and music videos on their web site.  Their consistent leaning toward the romantic pleases their fans and sets them apart from other Latin groups.  Juan Dominguez, the founding member of the group, is still the saxophonist for the ensemble, other members have come and gone.

With one platinum album, Necesito Decirte , and three gold albums, Morir de Amor, Ansia de Amar, and Perdoname mi Amor, to count among their successes, Conjunto Primavera are recipients of Billboard's Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing the band for influencing the growth and development of Latin music over a period of time.  In 2008, the band celebrated their 30th year anniversary by performing to a sell-out crowd Los Angeles' Nokia Theater.  Today, their music is found on both Latin and pop charts.
