Jacksonville Florida
The rock n’ roll alternative post grunge group called Cold would get their start in the southern city of Jacksonville Florida in 1996. The group would originally start out under the name of Grundig with members such as Scooter Ward, Sam McCandless, Jeremy Marshal, and Matt Loughran. They would pursue their musical career and change venues to Atlanta Georgia where they would begin playing for more than just local crowds although after a very short time they would return back to their home state of Florida.
First Known
The group Cold would first get the notice of Fred Durst and would be invited to record a few acoustic tracks that were called Check Please and Ugly. With these recordings they would be afforded a record deal under A&M Records and would release their first self titled full length album. The album would gain the group some accreditation in the music industry but not enough to propel them into an overnight success story. From this album, the group would go on to sign with Geffan records who would finance their next album called 13 Ways to Bleed On Stage.
This album was released in 2000 would be considered the group’s break through album and would contain the hit singles called End of the World and No One, which would gain hours of radio play in and around the Florida area. The album would also contain songs that would be featured on the game called Jet Grind Radio, which would further solidify their fan base and gain the group more exposure. Cold was now on their way and would go on a short tour to support the album before going back into the studio to release the next.
Continued Success
After the album 13 Ways To Bleed on Stage the group would begin work on their next album that was titled Year of the Spider that would be released in 2003. This album proved to be the most successful album of the band’s career and would have the single called Stupid Girl that would go on to reach number eighty seven on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. The band would also go on to create a music video for the second single called Suffocate.
It would seem that success was imminent for the group; however, some internal conflicts and band members were wanting to move on to bigger and better things and the album would get little promotion., The group would also experience a wane in support from their Geffan record label as well. During this time, the band experienced many changes in their line up and would go on to be release from Geffan Records. The band would then begin working on their next album that was supposed to be released in September of 2005 called The Calm That Killed the Storm.
However, history would not have it this way and the album was delayed. It would go on to include another name change and eventually be released under the title A Different Kind of Pain. The album would go on to sell about thirty six thousand copies but not do nearly as well as their others. This would cause much disagreement in the band and the internal fighting would start. The group went through months of disagreements before they would finally announce on their My Space website in November of 2006 that they were formally calling it quits. However, in 2008 the band would reform and go on a reunion tour and go on to release yet another album.
