Colbie Caillat

A great song should lift your heart, warm the soul and make you feel good.

Born on May 28, 1985, Caillat grew up in Malibu, surrounded by music.  Her father, Ken Caillat, helped to produce two of Fleetwood Mac's albums as an audio engineer and was a very important figure in Caillat's life.  With her father in the business and having a childhood filled with the sounds of '80s rock, Colbie Caillat began her musical career early in life.

While still young Caillat took piano lessons but did not truly find her place in the world of music until she began taking vocal lessons at age eleven and soon caught the attention of producer Mikal Blue who hired her to sing on several techno songs used in runway model shows.  At age 19 Caillat picked up the acoustic guitar and, together with Blue, recorded some of the songs she had written herself.

After a while, Jason Reeves entered the picture and began to collaborate with Caillat in order to develop her songwriting skills.  Caillat continued to compose, writing the basic melodies herself while Reeves and Blue gave their artistic input.  At the beginning of her career, Colbie Caillat was unsigned, releasing her songs via her MySpace page.  She did not attract much attention until the track Bubbly came out - before long her MySpace page was receiving thousands of hits per day and Caillat was on her way to being named one of the top female artists on MySpace by Rolling Stone and to signing a record deal with Universal Republic.

As her debut single, Bubbly hit number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and peaked at number 2 on the Pop 100.  The release of this hit single was soon followed by Realize, which reached number 20 on the Hot 100 and then by The Little Things, which peaked at number 94 on Pop 100.  Following her debut, Colbie Caillat made a number of celebrity appearances, recording a duet with Jason Mraz called Lucky on his We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things album and touring with big names like The Goo Good Dolls and Lifehouse in 2007 and John Mayer in 2008.

After releasing and co-writing several more songs Caillat released her second album, Breakthrough on August 21, 2009.  Featuring renowned guitarist David Becker on several tracks and including tracks like Fallin' For You, Caillat's second album quickly became popular.  This album was nominated for the Best Pop Vocal Album at the 52nd Grammy Awards and Caillat was nominated twice for Best Pop Collaboration for her work with Jason Mraz and Taylor Swift.  Caillat continues to perform on tour and to write new music that is loved around the world.
