Creating Something New
Circa Survive was formed in 2004, by the lead singer, Anthony Green, formerly of Saosin, and the members of the now-defunct band, This Day Forward. They signed a contract with Equal Vision Records, and in 2005, they released an extended play recording, entitled The Inuit Sessions EP. The record had four songs on it, two of which would show up on their first album. There were only 3,000 copies made of this record.
They released their debut album, Jaturna, a month later. A week before its official release, Circa Survive posted the entire album on their MySpace page. The album peaked at #183 on the Billboard Top 200. The band launched an aggressive tour to promote the album; they performed on the Warped Tour as well. Eventually, album sales topped 100,000 copies.
Making a Name for Themselves
The band's second album, On Letting Go, was released in 1997. With the fan base they had built with their activities surrounding Juturna, this album debuted at #24 on the Billboard Top 200 chart. 24,000 copies sold in the first week after release. In spring of 2008, Circa Survive toured with Thrice and Pelican throughout 2008 giving them the opportunity to promote their album.
Circa Survive released the album B-Side single, 1,000 Witnesses, to fans through "Invisible Children," which was a charity devoted to saving the children being abducted and forced into enlistment in the Lord's Resistance Army in Uganda. Also in 2008, they released B-side single, The Most Dangerous Commercials, for free download, to assist with the relocation of Siren Records in Pennsylvania.
What's Next
The band finished up their tour with Thrice and Pelican in early 2010 and are currently working in the studio, preparing their third album. There are no plans to tour until they are ready to launch a promotional tour for the third album, the working name being Blue Sky Noise. Critics, after paying attention to the band's live performances and to the band's albums, is expecting to hear a huge improvement in Green's vocals and guitar talent.
Currently, the band has posted eight new videos on their site, for songs that will appear on their new album. They are using MySpace and their band website to stay in touch with fans and keep them posted about progress on the album. The band plans to announce the exact date of release, and fans who preorder the album will receive a digital copy a week in advance.
