Christina Aquilera
I always wanted to have my own album released before I graduated high school.
Hailing from New York
The child of Fausto Wagner Xavier Aguilera, who was born in Ecuador, and her mother who was a Spanish teacher, Christina Aguilera was singing in talent shows and a young child. This actually did little for her social life as a child because many became jealous of the young girl’s talents and she was often subject to ridicule while at school. This became such an issue by her teenage years that she would eventually be home schooled after so many instances of peer abuse. However, she would not be kept down long and at the age of ten years old, she would gain the attention of many.
Uphill Battle
In her hometown of Pittsburgh, she began to regularly sing the national anthem for the hometown NHL hockey team, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Pittsburgh Pirates and there was no doubt that she would ultimately reach stardom and success. Her first mainstream success was the joining of the Mickey Mouse Club where she was among many up and coming stars such as Justin Timberlake and Britteny Spears.
Aguilera would start recording anywhere she could and with some demos from her past work with Disney, she signed a record deal with RCA Records in 1998. The song Reflection, which was on the Disney soundtrack for the movie Mulan, would gain her attention and be nominated for a Golden Globe. She would go on to release her first album, self titled, that would reach the top spots in the Billboard 200, eventually selling eight million copies in the United States while selling seventeen million copies across the globe.
The next few years would be seen as a major success for Christina Aguilera as she recorded hit after hit. Aguilera would receive a Grammy at the forty second annual awards for her single Genie In A Bottle under the category of Best New Artist.
Success
With nothing to stop her success, she had built a fan base of millions upon millions of people all around the globe. She was popular in practically every country that pop music was allowed. However, there was one aspect of her career that she had yet to accomplish, which was to release a Latin based album showing her Latino roots. This, like everything else that Christina Aguilera set her mind to was an instant success and she was even paired with teen idol sensation Ricky Martin on a few of her singles.
She would also join up in 2001 with singers Lil’ Kim, Mya, and Pink to remake a cover of Labelles Lady Marmelade for the movie Moulin Rouge. These singles were produced by Missy Elliot and would go on to earn all four singers a Grammy Award for Best Pop Collaboration. Aguilera would come back in 2002 to release another album called Stripped, which was supposed to be more in depth than the traditional teeny pop that she had produced in the past.
The album was somewhat different and began to display a more sexually active side of Aguilera featuring more suggestive lyrics and the tour outfits were considered far more risqué than anything of the past.
Sliding Scales
With this new image that Aguilera was cultivating, it became apparent that some did not like what they say. Many young teenage girls were encouraged to not buy into the sexual mainstream that was gaining ground with the advent of the internet and more access to cable television. However, Aguilera had developed such a strong fan base that nothing would keep her down and the album Stripped still flew off the shelves.
Aguilera has gone on to release a few more albums and has toured and collaborated with many more of the up and coming pop artists of the decade. Her millions of fans can follow her history as well as her future on her official website where they may be able to find some of her music available as a free music download.
