Career Start
Children of Bodom would start out with the members Alexi Laiho and Jaska Raatikainen who had been childhood friends in their home town of Espoo. They would first bring in Samuli Miettinen and form the band called InearthD and would record their first demo called Implosion of Heaven. Under that name, the band would play mostly local engagements and gain very little exposure and heavy metal and speed metal are entirely a niche within the hard rock world.
The group would end up funding their first album and then eventually sign to a record contract with Spinefarm Records since it offered the best deal for the group; however, the band would experience another problem in the fact that they would have to change their name. The group would search extensively for a name for their group and eventually settle on The Children of Bodom. They would go into the studio to produce their second full length studio album called Something Wild although it would not be released until 1997.
The group would get their big break when opening up for Dimmu Borgir, which would gain them the attention of Nuclear Blast records to get their album released throughout Europe. Their album Something Wild would be released in 1997 but the record would not generate much attention nor would the music video, which was very low budget and was said to have the band performing outdoors at night in sub zero temperatures.
Success
After the album was released, the group would follow with a tour in Europe that would begin in February of 1998 and they would also go on tour near the end of the same year. During this time, the group was working on some singles during breaks and would have two of these singles to make it to the top of the Finnish charts while they were on tour. Their second album would be called Hatebreeder, which would be released at some point in 1999.
The group would release the single called Downfall and it would go to the top of the hard rock charts throughout Europe. The group would gain international attention with these new releases and begin to tour in more countries other than simply Europe. After their tours, the group would go back into the studio and come out with their third studio album called Follow the Reaper.
The album would be released to a world wide audience in 2000 and would also have a music video for the single Everytime I Die. The group has released many more albums and their many fans can visit their official website to find out more history on the band. On their website, one can also find dates for their upcoming events as well as information on their new releases. At other places on the internet, one may find some of their music available for free music downloads or for internet screening.
