Celine Dion came from the city of Quebec Canada and was born to an impoverished but what was later to be said happy family. Her parents owned a small piano bar where Celine would watch performers nightly and later said that she often dreamed of becoming a performer herself. She would start singing for patrons at an early age as well as performing on the piano and would go on to compose her first song at the age of twelve under the guidance of her mother. The name of the song was called It Was Only A Dream. Her brother would go on to send the song to a record producer who heard the song and decided he would make it his goal to fund this young girl’s career.

First Recordings

Celine Dion would create her first album under the guidance of Rene Angelil who was her funding manager. The title of the album was called The Voice of the Good God and contained a single under that name as well. The song would become a number one hit in Canada and begin the start of Dion’s career in music. She would go on to compete in the Yamaha World Popular Song Festival that would give her exposure in countries such as Japan and European countries as well.

When she was of the age of eighteen, she first saw the legendary performer Michael Jackson and decided that she wanted to be like Jackson. Her manager new she would have to undergo much transformation before she would become a star such as that and proceeded to send her to Ecole Berlitz to help her with English. She would become a quick study in the English language and only two years after English lessons she would release her first album called Unison.

With the release of this album she was propelled into the adult contemporary market where she would gain much acclaim from critics in that industry. One of the singles off of the album would make it to the Billboard Hot 100. She would then embark on a tour of the United States to support her work.

Gaining Momentum

When the United States heard the voice of Celine Dion, they were instantly hooked. She would sing on the Disney movie soundtrack for Beauty and the Beast and the song would win her both an Academy Award as well as a Grammy for her voice. She would go on to release her self titled album in 1992, which consisted of mostly soft rock and would go on to win numerous awards for her work.

By the mid 1990’s, Dion was a hit in the United States. She would release her album called The Colour of My Love that was a testament to her relationship with her manager. Angelil and Dion would eventually marry in a ceremony that was broadcast over Canadian television.

Present

Dion has continued to release numerous albums over the last two decades. She has become one of the most influential females in the soft rock genre and has garnered success all over the world. Touring has not been solely in North America and her fan base reaches as far as the radio waves are allowed to travel. She releases albums in both English as well as in her native tongue of French, which makes her one of the leading multi lingual talents of all time.

After completing thirteen albums, Celine Dion would take a break to rest and to help with her husband who had been diagnosed with throat cancer. She would make a comeback in the mid 2000’s and still continues to delight her fans across the world.
