Born in the Midwestern state of Oklahoma to parents Stephen and Carole Underwood, Carrie Underwood would become one of country music's hottest female performers of the present selling out shows across the country shortly after her appearance on the hit television show called American Idol. She was born in 1983 on a farm in the rural areas of the Midwest and would have her first performance at the Robbins Memorial Talent Show.
She would continue to perform at rural clubs and organizations throughout the Midwest and would be on the verge of signing a deal with Capitol Records in 1996 but the deal would fall through and she would go back to square one. She would go on to attend college where she would complete the core curriculum but it was not until her showing on American Idol that she would become an international sensation.
Cowgirl Up
Auditioning for the show American Idol in 2004, it was said that she was a bundle of nerves in one of her first performances in a while. At her audition she would sing a song by 80's legend Tiffany called Could've Been that would win her a spot on the show. After her first televised performance, she was predicted to sweep all of the voting sessions, as she eventually did, and win by a wide margin.
She has since came back to the show to sing in other performances and her greatest appearance would be on the sixth season where she sang her single Wasted. After her sweeping win on American Idol, she would go into the studio to release her debut album that was a full length studio album called Some Hearts. The album would climb to the number one position on the country music Billboard charts and would sell over three hundred thousand copies in its first week.
The record has since been certified multiple times platinum selling millions of copies in the United States alone. It would later be said that it was the fastest selling country music debut album of all time. Carrie would go on tour in support of the album but quickly move back into the studio to release her next album called Jesus Take the Wheel in October of 2005. The record would also reach the number one position on country music Billboard charts and stay there for six weeks while also awarding her a 2006 Grammy Award under the category of Country Song of the Year.
A Shining Star
By 2007, Carrie Underwood was known to almost everyone in the United States and it did not matter if you were a country music fan or not. She was now beginning to mature as a singer and release singles that were not solely considered country music as the song Some Hearts would be released only under the pop and adult contemporary genres. She would have another hit single called Before He Cheats, which would be her third number one country music hit and it would stay at the top of the charts for five weeks.
She has gone on to release more albums and numerous singles up until the present day and still is one of the most sought after acts in country music.
