Carl Thomas

"Love represents itself in my life in many different ways: my family, my music, my God There is time when love can hurt and love can frustrate you. But all in all, it's exactly what you make it."

Carl Thomas is a popular R&B singer known for his solo work as well as multiple collaborations with other hit artists. He is well known for his smooth lyrics and soft voice serenading everyone in earshot of his infectious love song melodies.

In The Beginning

Carl Thomas was born on June 15th, 1971 in Aurora, Illinois. He was born the youngest of five siblings in the small town outside Chicago. Growing up he was able to remain grounded and humble as he developed his musical skills in Church and school. This kept him busy and out of the danger of the streets. He continued to excel at music throughout his childhood in both settings until graduation. After graduating he spent time in Chicago performing before finally packing up and moving to the bright lights of New York City to pursue his career.

Bad Boy Records

Things picked up for Carl Thomas in 1997 when he landed a recording contract with Bad boy records. In the early stages he primarily provided background vocal work for established stars at the time including Noreaga, Raekwon, and even Notorious B.I.G. This experience helped Thomas grow as a performer himself and he was soon able to land his own album as a direct result.

The year 2000 saw the release of Emotional, the debut album of Carl Thomas. Of the 15 tracks on the record, Thomas wrote or co-wrote 11. The album featured three singles that made it to the record charts. Summer Rain made it to the #18 position. The title track Emotional made it up to #8. The a single I Wish was the hit he had been waiting for when it managed to reach the #1 position on the US R&B Billboard chart. The success of those singles helped the album eventually reach platinum selling status.

Tragedy Strikes

Coming off of the success of his debut, Carl Thomas prepared to release Let's Talk About It in 2004. Before the release of the album, Thomas's step brother, Duranthony Evans, was shot and killed in a drive by shooting on Halloween night in Aurora, IL. The unexpected tragedy hit Thomas hard and caused him to take an extended time away from music. This included not promoting the new album which failed to garner any singles on the record charts. Despite the lack of single hits, the album still reached Gold selling status.

In 2007 Carl Thomas released another album titled So Much Better. The album managed to reach the top 25 on the Billboard Top 200 chart.

Other Work

In 2006 Thomas was nominated for a Grammy for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group alongside Chaka Khan, the late Gerald Levert, and Yolanda Adams for the single Everyday (Family Reunion.) This song was featured on the best selling soundtrack for the smash hit feature film Tyler Perry's Madea's Family Reunion. Thomas has done additional work as well with other artists. In 2009 he was featured prominently on Trey Songz' single Feels So Good. Today he is still in the studio preparing for his fourth album which promises to deliver he sounds and styles that his fans have come to expect.
