Camilo Sesto

The Beginning
Camila Sesto was born in Alcoi, a Valencian city in the province of Alicante, in Spain. In the 1960s, he was a member of two different rock bands, one of whom won a television music contest. During this time, he also performed in the Spanish version of the film, Shakespeare's Hamlet.
In 1971, he recorded his first album, Algo de mi. He released four more albums in as many years, each enjoying moderate success. In 1975, he starred in the Spanish version of Andrew Lloyd Weber's Jesus Christ Superstar, gaining for himself fame and the solid foundation of a fan base.
A Prolific Career
Due in part to his role in Jesus Christ Superstar, Camilo Sesto became a renowned composer and singer. He released six more albums in the 1970s, spawning hit after hit, including Melina, a song about Greek singer and politician Melina Mercouri, El Amor de mi Vida, and his biggest hit, Amor mio ¿que me has hecho? His work in the 1970s gave him near-superstar status in Spain and Mexico for his music, lyrics, and composition.
Six albums in the 1980s were not his only accomplishments. He also composed and sang the theme song for the telenovela, a Spanish mini-series drama, called Colorina. He collaborated with the show's star, Lucia Mendez, to perform the theme song of the same name. Sesto recorded only three albums in the 1990s, due to health problems, but he retured in the early 2000s.
At the Top
In 2003, Camila Sesto released the album, Alma, which included some songs in English and some selections from Andrew Lloyd Weber's Phantom of the Opera. He performed in 2004 at the Annual Vina de Mar Festival in Chile. This is considered the most important event in Latin music, and that year Sesto walked away with a number of awards. He has released four more albums to date, including the anniversary edition of Jesucristo Superstar.
