Brooks And Dunn

We don't want our fans to think we are just stupid goofballs.

The world of country music saw the rise of the duo Brooks and Dunn starting with their inception in the early 1990's and becoming one of the leading performers within the country music industry. They are one of the most successful music duos of all time and until recently, were still touring for their many fans throughout the United States.

Southern Roots

Leon Brooks, half of the duo, was born in 1955 in the city of Shreveport, Louisiana and moved to Nashville in 1979 to gain recognition in the country music community. Gene Dunn, born in Coleman, Texas in 1953 got his start after moving to Tulsa, Oklahoma playing for a house band at a night club in Tulsa called Duke's Country. Brookes and Dunn were introduced to one another by a Arista Records manager by the name of Tim Dubois. Their lives would never be the same again.

Singing Their SongIt didn't take long after the two were introduced with almost overnight success from singles such as Brand New Man and Boot Scootin' Boogie, which would go on to number one on the country music charts. The album, Brand New Man, was release in August of 1991 and would go on to be six times Multi Platinum according to the RIAA. Two years later, the duo released their second album titled Hard Workin' Man in February of 1993, which like their first, had five singles to make the country music charts.

The song Rock My World (Little Country Girl) gained the most popularity but never reached the number one spot finding its final position at number two. Almost as popular as their first, the album Hard Workin' Man went Multi-Platinum. A third album was produced only a year later and Brooks and Dunn had their next single to hit the number one spot, which was titled Little Miss Honkey Tonk. The album was also certified by the RIAA as Multi-Platinum. It was titled Waitin' On Sundown.

Cruise Control

With three albums under their belt, in 1996 the group released a fourth album called Showdown. The album included the hit song My Maria, which became the most played country song of that year and sat atop the number one spot accordingly. After a greatest hits album, the two went on to release their sixth album (studio) called Showdown in September of 1999.

This album was not quite as successful as the other five and did not contain any singles to reach the top five. Eventually the album would be certified Platinum, but was not their most popular of the decade. The wheels rolled on and the release of their seventh album came in April of 2001 that had a number one single titled Nothing 'Bout You, which was eventually heralded as their best single of all time, staying atop the charts for six long weeks.

Their next single, the patriotic Only In America gained in popularity and also reached number but not as long as six weeks. 2002 saw the first release of a Christmas album by Brooks and Dunn called It Won't Be Christmas Without You. This album was not that successful but seasonal albums are not expected to top hits. In 2004 the two released another greatest hits album, The Greatest Hits Collection II that previewed three new songs one of which reached number one, which was It's Getting Better All the Time.

Retirement

Although it may have seemed that the duo were met with vitrually overnight success, this was actually a text book example of hard work and ambition. The two released almost every year, sometimes two albums in one year, and with each album, they also toured. From 1991 Brooks And Dunn were either on the road or in the studio. This makes for a very tough personal life. Although the two were together almost three hundred and sixty five days out of the year, they managed to stay civil in almost every moment. It is almost unheard of with any musical group to not have disagreements when they are touring relentlessly and working in the studio as well.

However, the two artists managed to keep their cool in spite of all the hard work and dedication. In 2009, the duo announced that they would be retiring. This was heart breaking for all of their loyal fans although it should have been a surprise to no one due to the length of time they had been playing together. When asked why the two decided to call it quits, the explanation was simple in that they had both achieved numerous moments of fame and their ambition and hard work had paid off.

However, it was time to stop and smell the roses, so to speak. The two announced they were also parting on amiable terms, which again, for the amount of time they were together is almost unheard of. At the end of their final tour, which ends in 2010, the two will part ways although one would doubt this will be the end of Brooks and Dunn.
