"There used to be that whole mentality of ... it had to be 100 percent genuine, or no one would take it seriously. But that whole line has been blurred now ... You have all these kids coming up on Disney pop who then discover bands like BrokeNCYDE, and they're like, 'Oh my God, they said fuck!,' and they fall in love instantly, because it's their version of '80s punk."

Origin of the Beast

Brokencyde was formed in 2006 by vocal artists Mikl (Latin flava, Hype man, and Robot vocals) and Se7en (Lyrics, Gangsta Raps, and Crunk Screams) in Albuquerque, New Mexico. According to Se7en and Mikl, who met in high school, they named the group based on their music which was basically "broken inside" due to fundamentally unhealthy relationships. They started promoting the group online and Phat J (synthesizer and background vocals), Antz (Hype man, fog, and lights), and Bree Bree (Pig mascot) completed the membership lineup.

The group started promoting themselves through the social networking site, myspace. They let their music circulate by word of mouth, not including it on their myspace profile for over a year. Their fan base rose quickly and they were soon an internet hit.

Brokencyde is currently managed by and was discovered by The Artery Foundation. This team has also discovered other popular bands such as Carnifex, The Devil Wears Prada, and Alesana. They released their first single, Blue Steel in 2006. It quickly became a huge success. They followed with two other singles, Bree Bree and FreaXXX.

Underground Success

In 2006 and 2007 Brokencyde toured with several bands, including bands such as Drop Dead, Gorgeous, Morning Of, Breathe Carolina, and Karate High School. In 2007 the group released an indie album, The Broken!. This was a mixture of rap, emo ballads, and scremo dance mixes. July 2008 saw the group appearing on Total Request Live on MTV.
