It's really easy to write a pop song. I could've rewritten our first record a million times over, just changing chords around. What is hard is to write something that's influenced and different or more intriguing from everything else out there. In some respects, I think we could have done a lot better, but at the same time, I'm proud of it and glad so many kids connected with it.

They released their debut album, Your Favorite Weapon, in 2001. Their only single from the album, was titled Jude Law and a Semester Abroad. The album enjoyed moderate success, selling around 50,000 copies. They embarked on a concert tour to support the album, performing with Taking Back Sunday and Finch.
Creating a Niche
In 2003, Brand New released their second album, Deja Etendu, in the United States, Europe, and Australia. The album debuted at #7 on the Billboard Top 200, and sold 51,000 copies in seven weeks. They produced videos for the singles, The Quiet Thing That No One Ever Knows and
