The Band History
The history of the band dates back to 2005 when Martin Johnson who was writing songs and he wanted to record it by booking some studio time. He recruited bassist Bryan Donahue and John Keefe who played drums with several bands at the time. Keefe brought along his friend Paul DiGiovanni who was considered a guitar virtuoso. The bands first major breakthrough was when they reached the No.1 position on the website Top Unsigned Artist. The band went on a nationwide tour along with several other artists.
In 2006, Boys like Girls widespread buzz and recognition was undeniable and it brought them into the attention of Matt Squire who had produced several punk and hard core bands. They went on another tour in 2006 which added to the already growing fan base for the band. After the completion of the tour they moved into the recording studio and started recording their first album for Columbia Records.
The Boys like Girls released their eponymous "Boys like Girl" album. The initial sales were very disappointing. As the album did not even chart; but after the release of the single "The Great Escape", things started changing for the band. The single slowly picked u and went on to sell a million copies. The album it self charted and peaked at No.55 on the US album chart and No.14 US Rock charts. The album would go on to sell 500,000 copies and therefore it was certified Gold after almost two years from date of the release.
A Touring Band
Boys like Girls completed its first headlining tour; they continued touring with other bands and opened for the All American Rejects as well. In 2007, the band continued touring with other indie bands throughout the US. They went to Canada and the UK and in the summer of that year they were booked for the Warped Tour. They would tour the entire year playing shows in England for the Slam Dunk Festival.
In 2008, they would open for Avril Lavigne's Best Damn Tour and despite rumors they could not make a second appearance at the Warped Tour in 2008. The appeared on the Soundtrack of your Summer Tour and by the end of year would release a DVD of the live concerts in Nov 2008.
They hit the studio and completed the recording for the second album releasing it in Jun 2009. The album "Love Drunk" made an impressive debut on the US album charts at No.8 and received mixed reviews. It was the single "Two is Better Than One" with Pop sensation Taylor Swift broke into the Top 20 of the US Singles charts and would eventually sell a million copies
The band will be releasing their third album by the end of 2010
