Bow Wow - The First Beats
Born Shad Gregory Moss on March 9, 1987 in Columbus, Ohio Bow Wow's first moniker was "Kid Gangsta" which he used when he was a six year old rapper and avid fan of N.W.A. His interest in music had begun at age three so by seven he had perfected a style that had him performing at a concert in L.A. that caught rapper Snoop Dogg's eye. It was Snoop Dogg that gave Bow Wow the stage name of Lil' Bow Wow.
Jermaine Dupri came into Bow Wow's life when he was eleven and had a powerful effect on his career. In 2000, at age thirteen, performing as Lil' Bow Wow Beware of the Dog was released that was #1 on the charts and went double platinum on March 5, 2001. The single Bow Wow (That's My Name) performed with Snoop Dog went to the top of the rap chart. The Stick Up became a feature in the soundtrack for the movie Wild Wild West and singles Puppy Love and Ghetto Girls showed up on Hot R&B tracks and Hot Rap Singles as they were released. His second album, Doggy Bag, came out in 2002 with #1 singles Take Ya Home and Thank You. Although the album only made #11 on the Billboard 200 chart it was certified platinum.
Adolescence
Bow Wow's third album, Unleashed, came out in 2003 without the Lil'. In an MTV News interview he explained he was getting older and Lil' didn't fit. He had also produced this album without his mentor Jermaine Dupri. Bow Wow himself later admitted that was a mistake he likened to a teenage going out thinking he can make it on his own and after taking some hard knocks returning home humbled. Again under Dupri's wing Bow Wow's fourth album, Wanted, came out in 2005 and went platinum with single Let Me Hold You hitting #1 and #4 in the rap and Hot 100 charts respectively.
A short lived relationship with Ciara ended in 2006 and the single Outta My System from The Price of Fame album released that year reflected his pain but rated #2 on the Rap Chart upstaged only by Shortie Like Mine which made #1 on the Hot Rap Tracks chart. Bow Wow's singles have continued to rank on the charts through 2007 and 2008 during which time he released a collaborative album, Face Off, with Omarion and released several mix tapes.
New love
Since 2001 Bow Wow has been casted in 11 films and 3 television sitcom episodes. His first lead role was in the 2002 film, Like Mike as Calvin Cambridge, followed with the lead role in 2004 of D.J. Bow Wow has told reporters he loves acting and he wants to be the next Will Smith.
March 2009 marked the release of his sixth album, New Jack City II, and there is already talk of his next album, The Transition of Sad Moss, being released in 2010.
