Billy Currington - Dedicated Son of the South

Country western fans can be glad Billy Currington didn't give up after he failed to win a spot at Opryland when he was a junior in high school. He went on to rack up ten Top 40 hits on the country music charts since he signed with Mercury Nashville Records.
Billy Currington - Young years
Rincon, Georgia's population increased by one on November 19, 1973. That's when William Matthew was welcomed to the family. All seven Currington children were raised in the Savannah suburb to the sounds of Waylon and Willie, The Statler Brothers and other southern country and western greats. At ten Billy became the owner of his first Kenny Rogers album and went on to own them all. His admiration grew when he attended a Rogers concert and watched the master performer sell every song to the audience.
Singing and songwriting became a part of Billy's life in his teenage years but it wasn't until after a couple of failed runs at Nashville that he caught a break into the mainstream music world. In his late twenties a few demo's of songs he'd written with producer Carson Chamberlain found their way onto Luke Lewis's desk in Universal Music Group Nashville's office. Before Currington signed on with the recording company in 2001 (according to his MySpace bio) and his career began in earnest he supported himself as a concrete work and personal trainer. Strange as it may seem it was through his work as a personal trainer that he received encouragement to keep writing and recording during those years.
Music History
Currington's first studio album was released in 2003 was titled David Currington. The first single released from the album was Walk a Little Straighter which topped out on the Hot Country Singles charts at # 8 and served as notice to Nashville that he was coming on as a serious artist. The second single to be released, I Got a Feelin', became his first hit in the Top 5. His place in the Top 10 in 2004 came from his duet with the country version of Party for Two with Shania Twain near the end of 2004.
The second Currington album, Doin' Somethin Right, came out in 2005 and generated Currington's first two #1 singles. First the title single and then Good Directions ranked Number One on the Billboard 200 chart. Why, Why, Why was released between the two hits and charted at #13. The album itself peaked on the Top Country Albums chart at #2. Billy Currington had captured the hearts of country music fans. Doin' Somethin' Right is certified platinum for sales and won the artist his first award for the 2006 Hottest Video of the Year.
Things slowed down in mid 2007 when Currington canceled the remainder of his scheduled tour dates due to laryngitis. During the time off Billy regained his voice and recovered from emotional scars left by abuse in his childhood. The 2007 fall release of the single Tangled Up was the only single released until Don't came out in the summer of 2008.
On October 14. 2008 Currington's third studio album was released. Five of the songs were co-written by Billy himself. The first single, Don't, went to #2 and was followed by People Are Crazy peaking at #1 on the country music charts in the Spring of 2009. That's How Country Boys Roll is Currington's most recent single and has occupied the #6 spots on the country charts.
With eight singles from his three albums placing on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts, award winning videos, camera shoots on national magazines and touring around the world Billy Currington is living well but refuses to let the fast lane take over and remains a southern country man to the core.
