He began to produce his own music later in life with the computer program called Fruity Loops, which is a loop engine that uses music clips already generated by the software.

Jonas Altberg was born the in the town of Halmstad, Sweden on December 22, 1984 and lived with his parents and younger brother. He began to produce his own music later in life with the computer program called Fruity Loops, which is a loop engine that uses music clips already generated by the software. He would go on to be a techno rave specialist mixing many different albums to the enjoyment of the rave and techno culture. Amazingly, he is one of the few people who have successfully played music with no talent for instruments or voice but simply using a computer to make his songs.

First Albums

Basshunter would go on to produce his first album in 2002 and it was titled The Old Shit. This album got very little acclaim and some say this was primarily based upon the fact that he produced this album through a computer music generator. He would sell a few copies here and there, mostly to his friends and locals who were in to the club rave and techno scene. He would then go on to release another album in 2004 called the Bassmachine, again entirely computer software generated.

He began working as a DJ in different clubs and bars and would make a record deal with Warner Music in April of 2006. His first single would soon be released called Boten Anna, in which he produced a music video of himself in various places such as driving in a car as well as walking into a club and stepping up to the DJ pulpit getting ready to spin. The song became a hit in his home country of Sweden and was the first song in the Swedish language to make it to the number one position on the Dutch Top 40.

Gaining Ground

With this hit and the new found fame, he decided to give it another shot and release another single called Now You’re Gone, in which he had to completely rewrite the lyrics to gain the attention of other markets outside of Scandinavia. The song would reach number one in the UK and stay there for four weeks. This hit single ended up being the name of his next album that he worked on for a long time in 2007 and early into the next year, finally being released in July of 2008.

The album Now You’re Gone contained more hit singles with titles such as All I Ever Wanted, Angel In the Night, and I Miss You. Basshunter would go on to release another version of the album called Now You’re Gone – The Album: Deluxe Edition in April of 2009. This new media attention scored him a role on the television show called Celebrity Big Brother of the UK in which he would eventually finish out the show in fourth place. In July of 2009, he would go on to release his fifth studio album called Bass Generation with the lead single titled Every Morning.

Present

Basshunter has gained a strong following of international fans although he has yet to really break into the United States music scene. His has an official web site and on other web sites one may find some of his music available as a free music download. His official web site will explain his history and how he started his computer generated music career. It may also contain news and events that pertain to his future as a musician and any up coming publicity stops he is making for his many fans. With such a strong techno and European following, he will most likely be entertaining audiences for years to come.
