We also try, a lot of people say we have our own distinct sound. A lot of off time stuff, not so much four four, everything like that. As far as live performances, we really try to put on a good show for people and some metal bands try really hard but can’t move around as much. We put a lot of effort into being creative, like in our music and on stage.
The Beginning
August Burns Red is a metal core Christian band, formed by a group of high school friends. In 2004, they released their first extended play recording, Looks Fragile After All. The band spent about a year, touring, promoting their EP,and building a fan base.
In 2005, they signed with Christian record label, Solid State Records. Their debut album, Thrill Seeker, was released later that year. They produced a video for the track, Your Little Suburbia is in Ruins, can be viewed on YouTube and at their official website.
Carving a Niche
August Burns Red released Messengers in 2006. The album sold 9,000 copies in the first week. It peaked at #81 on the Billboard Top 200 and has sold 90,000 copies to date. They produced videos for the tracks, Composure and Back Burner, the second of which was released on MySpace. They released a B-Side instrumental version of Carol of the Bells, which appears on the multi-artist CD, X Christmas. The recording is featured in trailers for the movie, The Spirit, which opened on Christmas Day, 2008.
2008 and early 2009 was filled with a series of concerts and tours, including a performance in the middle east, at the Dubai Desert Rock Festival. In April and May, 2008, August Burns Red toured with As I Lay Dying and Misery Signals. From August through October, they headlined a tour, supported by Sky Eats Airplane, A Skylit Drive, and This or the Apocolypse. In November, they headlined a tour of the UK and Europe.
What's Next
The band released their 2009 album, Constellations, supported by their Spring Headliner Tour with All That Remains. The album charted at #24 on the Billboard Top 200 in the first week of release. August Burns Red released single, Thirty and Seven, to iTunes. Nielsen Soundscan placed them at #161 of the Top 200 in sales of mp3 downloads in the last quarter of 2009. They are billed to support the band, Bring Me the Horizon, with A Day to Remember in the UK following their tour.
The band is set to tour as the main supporting band for A Day To Remember's Toursick in 2010. The album, Constellations, is available in its entirety for download on iTunes, as is the Christmas single, O Come O Come Emmanuel.
Did you know . . .
The band's name comes from an incident in high school when the members' friend broke up with his girlfriend, Autumn, who sought revenge by burning the boy's Irish Setter.
The song, You Should be Taking Flight Right Now, appearing on the EP, Looks Fragile After All, includes a monologue by Charlie Sheen from the movie, Platoon.
