Arch Enemy
I’m really proud of the years with Arch Enemy and it’s always a pleasure to share this with people who wants to know stuff, who are interested.
Scandinavians
Over the last decade, there has been some new and emerging genres in the world of rock n’ roll, one of which is the concept of death metal. Death metal is a style that brings haunting lyrics coupled with grinding guitars and resonating drums. The band Arch Enemy has helped to perpetuate this style in their home country of Sweden where the power metal group still reigns as one of the champions of this style.
The Early Times
Forming from members of other bands such as Carcass and Carnage, Arch Enemy would make themselves first known as their own band with members Michael Amott, Chris Amott, Johan Liiva, and Daniel Erlandson. The group would merge many different types of styles of the mega metal and death metal category to create a sometimes fast paced technical rhythm that would be coupled with melody. Arch Enemy would produce their first album called Black Earth, which was created a Studio Fredman and released by Wrong Again Records, who are non existent in the present.
With the single off of the album, Bury Me an Angel, would gain the attention of many fans in Sweden as well as Japan. This was considered the band’s most technical and hardest album with many songs being edgy and rough. Because of problems with their record label, the band would go on to sign with Century Media. This proved to be a smart move and the band went on to produce the album Stigmata, which would be their first global album release. This album gained momentum in the United States and Europe, which created a solid fan base for the group to build on.
Cranking Out
After the release of Stigmata, a tour ensued to support the album release, but the band was immediately ready to get back to the studio and would go on to release Burning Bridges in 1999. There was also a live version of the album released in Japan called Burning Japan Live 1999 and from the support of their many fans this album was also released world wide instead of only Japan for where it was originally to be released.
Over these couple of years, the band experienced some internal struggles while member would come and go, but they never split up. Their style was ever changing and the album Burning Bridges was a testament to their maturing methods and sounds. Some of the internal changes would create a new spot for a front persona and lead singer. Angela Gossow, while having an interview with Chris Amott, gave a demo tape to the band and Arch Enemy all agreed that they had found their new lead singer. She would stay with the group up until the present.
Up To Date
The band began releasing new albums with their new singer and the first of these was Wages of Sin that was released in 2001. From their new found acclaim, the band would be afforded to play alongside of the legendary death metal groups such as Slayer and Motorhead in a Japanese music festival called Beast Feast in 2002. Interestingly, the death metal trend had caught on in Japan more than other Asian countries and Arch Enemy found a very strong fan base in the country. They would utilize that by doing a number of tours in Japan in the early years of the 2000’s. Their release of more albums over the decade would increase their foundation of fans all across the globe.
Present Day
Arch Enemy released its last album of the present titled Root of All Evil. The band quickly toured in support of the album in many different continents and countries such as Japan, Australia, and the United States. They have performed at the many hard rock and death metal festivals alongside of death metal legends such as Mega Death and Judas Priest. Some of their music may be available as a free music download on web sites across the internet.
