Career Beginnings


Anthony Hamilton began singing at a very young age. His talents within the vocal realm were first realized while singing in his church choir at the age of ten. After continuing singing in his community church, Hamilton decided it was time to move on to further his musical career and moved to New York City in 1993. From there, Anthony Hamilton would then sign to the Andre Harrel's record label titled Uptown Records. While with Uptown Records, he would join singer of soul D'Angelo who was then on an international tour promoting his album Voodoo.


Hamilton would sing back up for D'Angelo throughout the tour. He then became recognized for his collaboration with the group Nappy Roots where he sang on the chorus line of the song Po' Folks. This collaboration would gain him more recognition within the music industry due to the fact that the song Po' Folks was nominated in 2003 for the category of Best Rap/Sung Collaboration.


He then went on to work with JadaKiss and sang on the hit titled Why, which would go on to be nominated for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration in the year of 2005. Hamilton would also be featured on two of 2Pac's remixed version of Thugz Mansion and the popular Dear Mama, which was reproduced by Frank Nitty.


Going Solo


After his many collaborative works, Anthony Hamilton decided it was time to work on his career as a solo artist and released his first work, which was a compilation album of his earlier works titled Soulife. In December of 2005, he got his first real taste of success when his third studio album under the title Ain't Nobody Worryin' that went gold. After the release of his third album he greatly began to demand the attention of the music community. Hamilton went on to be nominated for a BET Award and won the BET J under the titled category Cool Like That.


On an interesting note while paying homage to one of rock n' rolls greatest musicians, Bob Dylan, when Hamilton made a guest appearance on Buddy Guy's album titled Bring'em in which he contributed to the vocals of the cover Lay Lady Lay, also with Robert Randolph. Along with his many contributions to the music world, Hamilton has also found himself as guest on many television shows over the last couple of years, one of which would incude The Chappelle Show staring the world renowned comedian Dave Chappelle. On the big screen, he also made an appearance of the international hit movie American Gangster as a singer and contributed to the movies soundtrack as well.


Career


Over the course of his career, Hamilton produced six albums total. In almost all of his albums one can definitely hear his Jamaican roots coming through. Anthony Hamilton has received many awards for his many songs and albums. A list of his albums would include all of the following records: XTC, Comin' From Where I'm From, Soulife, Ain't Nobody Worryin', Southen Comfort, and his most recent The Point of It All. From these albums, he has been nominated for awards.


To list a few, these would include nominations of BET J Cook Like Dat Award (he won this in 2006), Best Male R&B Artist through BET Awards, Best Collaboration, Best Male R&B Artist, Best New Artist. Not only has he been recognized by BET but Critics Choice, Grammy Awards, Image Awards, MOBO Awards, Soul Train Awards, and last but not least Vibe Music Awards. His career thus far has been nothing but spectacular. He has enthralled audiences over an international arena and still continues to do so today.


His many fans across the many cross cultural boundaries follow Hamilton through his web page anxiously awaiting news on his new upcoming tours as well as the work he is doing for his next album release. He has most recently appeared on the NAACP Image Awards on February 26, 2010. His most current charitable work consists of the remake of We Are the World where musicians from all music genres collaborated on the remake for the recent earthquake in Haiti.
