“When I see something I end up making a song about it and that’s the way it is. There have been plenty of times when I’ve been in the studio and they were like, “Hey, why don’t you make a song about such and such,” and I just can’t. I’ve gotta have it in my heart.”
This Mexican-American recording artist has made large leaps over the past couple of years sharing with the world her musical talent. Despite her success she still realizes were she got her start and displays that within her music. Amanda Perez was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Getting Her Start
Amanda Perez began displaying interest in music at a very early age. When she was the age of two years old she attempted to play an accordion that belonged to her father. When Amanda reached the age of four years she started playing keyboards. When she was growing up in Indiana her interest in music continued to grow, with members of her family performing in the band The Sombra Chicana USA. When Amanda reached the age of eleven years of age she created a band of her own called The Sombra Chicana Chiquitos. Her band began performing during sets that were also being performed by The Sombra Chicana USA.
However even due her minor success that she had gained in her local community, Amanda was still having difficulties getting her music heard by major record labels. While waiting on her music to be heard Amanda and involved herself with selling drugs. This is a time in her life that she regrets. While Amanda was in school she signed up for an expo in Indianapolis where she one a “Junior Vocalist” award. At that expo she was the only Latina contestant.
Catching A Big Break
Amanda’s future took a turn towards a positive on in the year 2000 when a music talent scout came to her town and had a meeting with her.
