Getting Started

Alesana is post-hardcore band that was formed in Raleigh, North Carolina, in 2004. The first band to join Tragic Heroes Records in 2005, and soon after, the released an extended play recording, entitled Try This With Your Eyes Shut. The music was made available physically, in stores, but also digitally through the band's website and on other music sites, for mp3 download or streaming. They embarked on a nationwide tour.

The band's first full length album, On Frail Wings of Vanity and Wax, was released in 2006. The album, released on the Tragic Heroes label, was re-released the following year on their new label, Fearless. The album was themed, centering around Greek mythology. In early 2008, the band hit #44 on the Billboard Heatseeking chart. Aleasana took part in the Warped Tour in 2007.

Building Up Speed

Alesana released their third album in 2008, entitled When Myth Fades to Legend. Like its predecessor, the album is based on stories and fables, many them from the Brothers Grimm this time. The album peaked at #96 on the Billboard Top 200 chart and at #13 on the Hard Rock charts. The entire album is available for streaming or download at iTunes.

The 2008 Warp Tour was directly followed by the 2009 Australian Soundwave Festival, where Alesana performed alongside Nine Inch Nails, Alice in Chains, All That Remains, In Flames, and more. Later that year, they joined Drop Dead Gorgeous, I Set My Friends on Fire, and Fall From Grace on the World of Tourcraft tour.

Present and Future

Their most recent album, The Emptiness, was released in January of 2010. This album is loosely based on the works of Edgar Allen Poe. This is the first album of theirs to release singles. Alesana released To Be Scared of an Owl and The Thespian two weeks apart from one another on the internet. Fans can purchase downloads in mp3 format or simply stream them and listen to the on their computers.

Alesana is currently touring in the United Kingdom. From there they are scheduled to visit Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, and Italy. Upon their return from this tour, they plan to embark on a nationwide tour with Of Mice and Men, A Skylit Drive, and We Came As Romans.

• Alesana takes its name from Alice-Anna Street, where two of the members used to live in Baltimore, Maryland.
• In early 2009, Alesana contributed a cover on Justin Timberlake's What Goes Around . . . Comes Around to the compilation album, Punk Goes Pop 2.
