Aiden
People might say we write songs to get played on the radio or to get played on MTV, but it's like that's so far out of our control. We just write songs that we like and then we go out on tour.
The Beginning
Aiden is an American rock band, formed in Seattle, Washington, in 2003. Bass player, wiL Francis became the lead singer by default when their lead singer quit. Their first album, Our Gang's Dark Oath, was released by Dead Teenagers Records in 2004 and enjoyed limited success. Their second album, Nightmare Anatomy, was released a year later by Victory Records and made it to #16 on the US Indie Charts and #9 on US Heat.
Aiden's touring career began their touring career in 2006, playing the opening performance for HIM, a Finnish rock band. The moderate success of Nightmare Anatomy and their impressive stage presence started to put Aiden on the map, and their fan base was beginning to grow. During this same year, the received the Kerrang! Award for best international newcomer. The award is sponsored by Kerrang! Music Magazine in the United Kingdom. They were also awarded the Hammer Award for best newcomer.
Gaining Speed
By the time the band released the album, Conviction, was released in 2007, Aiden had already been touring worldwide with 30 Seconds to Mars, Emmanuel, and Keating. Immediately following this, they began an tour with Lost Prophets and Talking Back Sunday in the United Kingdom. In the same year, Aiden joined the North American Taste of Chaos Tour, with 30 Seconds to Mars, The Used, Senses Fail, Saosin, and Evaline.
What was coming from these tours, and was supported by the climb Conviction took to #54 on the US Charts and #5 on the US indie Charts, was that Aiden was becoming established as a legitimate, successful band. Fans had begun visiting their website, setting up fan sites, and seeking mp3 downloads of singles like One Love and Moment. Aiden had arrived on the music scene only two short years ago.
Pressing Ahead
Aiden released the album, Knives, in 2009, with the singles, Scavengers of the Damned and Let the Right One In, being released in advance through iTunes for mp3 download. The album only peaked at #95 on the US Charts, but fans continue to request the singles on line and flock to see them in concert. Francis has mentioned in recent interviews that they are back in the studio, preparing to record their next album.
Not ones to sit still, the members of Aiden are multi-tasking these days. They are continuing to tour, seemingly nonstop. Three members of the band, WiL Frances, Angel Ibarra, and Nick Wiggins have all announced that they are also working on solo projects, in addition to (not in place of) the continued work with Aiden.
