Ace Hood -Flashfire from Florida

"I feel like I'm an army in myself. I carry my own weight and since I represent for the hood, why not attach that to my name?"

Confident, ambitious, talented, street-smart and up on how the music business works this twenty-one year old Port St. Lucie, Florida homeboy is turning out hot sounds that are burning their way up the Billboard Charts. Surrounded with support from established rappers T-Pain, Flo-Rida, Trey Songz and Rick Ross Ace Hood's first album, Gutta, made good in 2008 by reaching #36 on The Billboard 200 and 5 on the R&B Albums Chart.

Born from Loss

Deerfield Beach, St. Lucie, Florida has been home to Antoine "Ace" McColister and his mother for Ace's whole life. Football was everything to Ace until his sophomore year in high school. Aspiring to be a professional football player he played hard and received an injury that permanently took him out of the game for his trouble. Losing a dream at 16 years old is harsh. But Ace took the time and energy that had been devoted to football and channeled it all into an obsession with rap music. A year later Dollaz & Dealz, a local imprint, had him recording tracks and he had a few street singles circulating. Whatever he does, Ace will tell you, he does it with confidence and style. Constantly on the grind Ace perfected his look, swag and sound over the next two years performing locally.

The sound of starvation

Hanging out in front of radio station WEDR 99 Jamz to participate in a contest for performing at DJ Khaled's 2007 birthday bash Ace was just hoping to get the opportunity to perform. He fully expected to have to grind for ten or fifteen years before he would be noticed by anyone in the big league and be signed to a label. He was willing to put in his time but nineteen was his number. Stepping out of the station for a minute DJ Khaled noticed the young rapper and accepted the CD he was handed. That night DJ Khaled called Ace's manager and set up a meeting with the young man with notable swag and what DJ Khaled described as the sound of starvation in his music. Ace was on the fast track.

Three in three

DJ Khaled signed Ace Hood as his first artist under his We the Best Music company within weeks of that fateful day. Inspired by his association with DJ Khaled, Plies, Rick Ross and the rest of the South Florida hip-hop powerhouses Ace Hood had his first album released in 2008. The single Cash Flow burned up the radio waves in South Florida. Within nine months the prolific young performer released his second full album, Ruthless, in late June 2009 which jumped to #23 on The Billboard 200. The first single on the Ruthless album, Overtime, a commentary on the music scene, is performed with Akon and T-Pain. With singles still coming on the air from Ruthless Ace Hood has recently confirmed a release of his third album called Mr. Hood in early 2010. Ace is producing material at a speed that matches his mercurial rise in the hip hop world.

Powerful in his conviction to live up to the expectations of his mentors Ace Hood continues to hone his craft with the same verve that has brought him so high so fast.
